Tottenham Hotspur host Everton at White Hart Lane on Saturday in the first match of match-week nine, in the ongoing Premier league season.
Tottenham are gung-ho following a morale boosting loss to inter Milan in a European League away match on Wednesday. You read right, a morale boosting loss. If that sounds oxymoronish, you might not think so, if you knew that Inter were up 4-0 at half-time and all speculation about the match revolved around what the final score would be, 8-0, 9-0, or even double figures.

A punter could have made a fortune on the day had he bet on a full-time score of 4-3. Spurs took the fight to Milan in the second half on the back of a hat-trick by Bale, a performance that led to comparisons with a 16 year-old Rooney at Everton. 'Arry Redknapp had the last word, as ever, with the assertion, "Bale isn't for sale", or words to the effect.
Reading the half-time score Everton players would have been licking their lips ahead of Saturday's match at White Hart Lane, especially after their 2-0 win against Liverpool in match-week eight. But the final score of the Inter-Spurs game is likely to have made them a little more circumspect.
Tottenham are sitting pretty in fifth place on the Premier League table having handed Fulham their first defeat of the season, playing away at Craven Cottage, last week. To Spurs' credit, they came from behind to win 2-1, though Fulham manager Mark Hughes wanted Huddlestone's winning goal nullified, claiming that Gallas was off-side.
The Everton-Liverpool match was touted as the match to watch in week eight. But as it turned out, the off-field wrangles at Anfield appeared to have taken their toll on the Merseysiders, and Everton banked three points from their 2-0 win, all the more cause for celebration coming as it did after three successive derby losses to the reds.
For Spurs, Defoe, Dawson, O'Hara and Woodgate are sidelined by injury. With Tottenham's defence thus weakened, Mikel Arteta could be key to Everton's fortunes. However, Everton have their own injuries woes, with the sidelining of Anichebe, Saha, Rodwell, Fellaini, Jagielka and Pienaar.
Spurs will be happy to have Van der Vaart back after serving his suspension, as well as Younes Kaboul recovered from injury.
