3 Different Ways School Children Learn Material

Children want to succeed just as adults do this includes school work and assignments but all children learn differently.

nurse jackie season 1

One way that a child could learn is by watching someone doing it, while explaining it step by step. At first they may struggle to learn the new skill but once they grasp that information you can be assured that they know it. They have to visually see it being done then usually would like for that person to watch them do it to make sure that they are doing it correctly.

NURSE JACKIE

The second way that children learn is by reading it out of a book then applying what they learned and using that information. Some children and adults are not able to do that and would have a difficult learning if that was the only way to do it. This may be one of the hardest ways to learn something new.

The last way that children learn is by trail and error. This is mostly hands on experimental. These children like to be given a project then they would like to be left alone to figure it out for themselves. Many children will try to do something over and over again till they get it right. This can lead to frustration for the children. Many children will give up hope if they can not master it correctly within a few tries.

Not all children will learn the same way it is important to find out which way your child learns best then stick with that way. This is easier to do and accomplish if you are homeschooling your children, where you can take the time to teach them the way that they learn the best.

House Returns For a New Season

Gregory House fans reunite on the FOX HD channel for the Season Five premiere of House. Dr. House maintains his belief that "People don't change!" and he is the biggest example. Through the last four seasons we've followed House as he has made brilliant diagnostic conclusions while making questionable choices in treatment with his carefree attitude and total disregard for authority.

As an outsider looking in to the workings of the set of Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in full high-definition it becomes easy to be drawn into the allure of working in the medical field as one of House's assistants. For an hour each week many viewers contemplate a change of careers but the reality of the true medical field sets in after hitting the power button.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE

Dr. Gregory House is played by British actor, Hugh Laurie. House's team of diagnosticians works diligently trying to find the cause of the patient's medical issues while using various testing methods some of which may appear unorthodox. The team only works with patients who have been unable to receive a diagnosis through standard means. Additional key roles in this show are Dr. James Wilson played by Robert Sean Leonard and Dr. Lisa Cuddy, Hospital Administrator, played by Lisa Edelstein.

Each high-definition episode starts off by showing the patient as their symptoms appear. The team works to arrive at a diagnosis through differential diagnosis while House directs the team through finding the potential problem. House often belittles his team while pointing out that they have missed important minute details. In Season four viewers followed House as he struggled with losing time with his best friend, Wilson, who has recently acquired a girlfriend, Amber, who happened to be a former team candidate. A returning theme within the show is House's misuse of narcotic pain medication, hydrocodone, to treat chronic leg pain.

Viewers were taking on an emotional roller coaster for the season finale of season four as House attempted to remember the events of a bus crash that brought him and Amber to the emergency room. Although House appeared to recover the team was forced to try to find a diagnosis to probably treat Amber whose health was rapidly failing. Viewers empathized with Wilson as he lost his girlfriend in the finale. As fans await the new season uncertainty surrounds the fate of House' friendship to Wilson, Wilsons job at Princeton-Plainsboro, and the health of teammate thirteen who discovered she had Huntingons Disease.

Nurse Call Integration

A Nurse Call System allows patients in health care settings to alert a nurse or other health care staff members when they are in need of assistance. A signal alerts staff at the nurse's station, and usually, a nurse or nurse assistant responds to such a call. Most systems simply beep or buzz at the station or flash an alert on a computer screen. This requires a staffer to constantly monitor the system at the nurse's station or actually visit the patient's room to determine the patient's needs.

nursery glider

Nurse Call Integration is an application that connects Nurse Call Systems to mobile communication systems and other communication platforms. This is done through a real-time communication system often called nurse call integration middleware. Middleware is powerful technology that provides the messaging backbone for critical alarm and event management in thousands of hospitals today. Nurse Call integration enables the Nurse Call System to send its many alerts, in a message format, to mobile and other communication devices.,br.

NURSE

There are currently many different types of communication devices in use at hospitals today. These devices include pagers, DECT phones, Wi-Fi enabled phones, email enabled devices, Smart phones, LED display signs, Cell phones and traditional desk top phones. Each of these devices provides varying levels of messaging capability. Most will display a text message which typically includes the location or room number and the time the alarm was initiated, as well as the type of alarm generated. Some systems allow hospital staff to communicate directly to the patient, while more sophisticated devices allow the staff members to acknowledge, decline, escalate or forward the messages.

Nearly all nurse call integration middleware applications allow for multiple connections to disparate alarm and communication systems. In addition to nurse call systems, it provides a common platform for linking your mobile staff with point-of-care alerts from patient monitoring, pulse oximetry, ventilators, infant abduction, lab systems, as well as safety systems for fire, security, building management, and others. Not only does it streamline communication, but it simplifies the IT hassles involved with managing many disparate systems. These systems also provide comprehensive reporting of all events, including time/date stamps, recipients, and their responses.

There are many reasons for hospitals to implement Nurse Call Integration systems. They allow hospital staff to be mobile and more efficient by reducing unnecessary trips to the nursing station or the patient's room. Direct communications between patients and nurses reduces the response times to patient requests helping to increase overall patient and staff satisfaction. All of these things combined can lead to improved patient safety and can even mean the difference between life and death.

"No Ordinary Love" by Doug and Jackie Christie: Book Review

No Ordinary Love
by Doug & Jackie Christie with Michael Levin

Infinite Love Publishing (2007)
Doug and Jackie Christie are an unusual couple in the glittery world of NBA. Not only they are married and have three children together, they actually profess to love being married to each other and choose to be faithful to each other. For this they have been highly ridiculed in the media, both by some fans and certain reporters.

jackie robinson

Doug is a 14-year NBA veteran, who has played for a number of teams and had been honored several times with All-League defensive awards. Jackie is a former fashion model. Both came from single-parent households, which just might have been the deciding factor in choosing the path they've chosen. While not completely traditional from the beginning (they had their first child a while before they've decided to get married), nowadays they live like any perfectly ordinary family. They profess to do most of the work in the house by themselves (and yes, Doug is supposed to be a great cook!), their children are being watched over by the grandmother and Doug, as much as he loves basketball, does not put it ahead of Jackie and their family.

JACKIE

The book, which is written like a dialogue between Doug and Jackie, is a fascinating glimpse in the world of NBA teams and their practices as well as a thought-provoking and inspirational testament to their love and devotion. As Jackie would say, "A man has to be ready for a relationship - not forced or coaxed or convinced." And in Doug's own words, "So that's my message to the men reading this book - stick your ego in your back pocket. Maybe it is making you look bigger than you are, but it's hard to reconcile fronting with love. Let that special someone see that real you. Let yourself see the real you. You just might be surprised by what you find." Sound advice - and it would not hurt any if one were to substitute a "she" for a "he" in those words. All of us could benefit from this.

Doug and Jackie renew their vows every year. So far they've done it a dozen times. I would not be surprised if they do it another couple of dozen times. Putting your family ahead of everything else might be outmoded nowadays, but I can not see how it could hurt anything. Everybody needs an anchor in life. Having your spouse and/or family as an anchor could only make you a stronger person.

"No Ordinary Love" was an interesting read, which will certainly appeal to fans of NBA as well for family-oriented readers. Approach it with an open mind and you just might decide to make some changes in your own life as well.

Youth Football Practice, Your Fourth Practice of the 2008 Season

This is a continuation of the football practice schedule my three youth football teams are following for the 2008 season as well as comments on the progress of all three teams age 7-9, 10-11 and 12-13.

We gave the kids Friday-Sunday off. While most of our competition is practicing 5 days per week, we feel very confident that using the practice methodology we employ along with the proper pace and priorities, we will be able to compete. We believe that youth football players should be really looking forward to practice and are going to make sure no one gets "burned out", while preparing the kids for our first game on 8/23. This is the earliest game we have ever played and the least amount of practice time I've ever had in coaching youth football for over 15 years.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE

We got started with the base dynamic warm ups, team fit form tackle and angle form tackling, We are easily getting done with all of this in 10 minutes, the pace is where we want it and everyone is breathing a bit heavy at the end of it. Coaches are getting the hang of the perfection we are looking for and the super fast pace, where each small group of 6 kids is getting a rep about every 6 seconds.

Today was a defensive day and our second day in pads.

We worked 20 minutes competitive group tacking drills, loser goes to left group, winner to right group, Close quarters tackling drills and for those progressing well, 3 slot challenge tackling drills. For those struggling, back to the form splatter tackling drills.

The competitive group tackling process helped us determine where kids were going to play on defense. We had a real good idea based on last weeks practice, but this helped us on the kids sitting on the fence. Our coaches all have a detailed description of each position and the traits required to play each position.

We divided up into and did the following for 30 minutes:

Linebackers-Open Field tackling and block shedding drills

D-backs- backpedal, 45 degree break on backpedal, Cover Post, Out

D-Linemen- Bull Rush move, Swim Move, Both moves then form tackle fit

Bearcrawlers- Bearcrawler progression per the book, relay, squeeze, squeeze to form tackle fit

D-Ends- Base alignment, base move, versus lead block sweep, versus coaches as scout on sweep, reverse, off-tackle

Team Defense 40 minutes- 3 steps and stop on ball movement, versus double tight full house, versus double tight wing, versus split with slot

Subbing every play- Every player has both an offensive and defensive position

The with coaches running backfield, sweep, boot, reverse, dive, off-tackle, play action

20 minutes Kicker tryouts-Younger team

10 minutes "game time" Deer Hunter, Dummy Relay Races

Older team 20 minutes - Punt and Kickoff teams

Stay tuned for more developments.

The Role and Responsibilities of Nurse Managers

Managing a staff of nurses is a challenging career that requires nursing and managerial skills. A nursing management career starts with being a licensed practical nurse and working your way up through years of clinical practice and advanced education. They also participate in management training that addresses specific issues that deals with employees, behavioral standards, and handling of legal issues that is associated with the supervision of the people working in the hospital environment. Nurse Managers or what used to be called as head nurses handle specific departments such as the intensive care unit or pediatrics.

Duties of a nurse manager

NURSE

Nurse Managers are responsible for planning, organizing, and directing health services in their department to ensure that the goals and objectives are performed consistently and that the services provided to the patients is of the highest quality and standard. They select, mentor, motivate, and direct the development and evaluation of the staff nurses. They are responsible for establishing and keeping track of quality improvement indicators and other information that concerns the patient care and services. They ensure that resources are available in order to provide high quality service and the on-time performance that is consistent with the facility's standards. At times, they devise educational programs that are health related for the facility's non-professional and professional staff. They participate, consult and collaborate with other units and healthcare providers in developing long term plans for health care programs. They interpret and communicate policies and procedures that the agency or facility puts in place to establish areas of responsibility and assignments among departments and staff. They are also responsible for developing budget estimates and handle other information pertaining to financial concerns and requirements. They approve and monitor expenditures and purchases to ensure that the budget guidelines are complied to. They are responsible in the staff maintenance. They assign nurses to particular cases and oversee the patient care to ensure that it remains at a high standard. They are also involved in creating treatment plans for patients and to coordinate the efforts of the medical team. This is to keep everyone up to date of the progress in the medical care and condition of the patient.

Key challenges in nursing management

Increasing nursing staff satisfaction and retention. One of the most challenging aspects of being a nurse manager is how to effectively address or reduce the effects of the continuing shortage of nurses especially in their respective facility or department. Planning and managing the unit's finances and resources. This requires proper planning and management on a shift to shift basis and in between shifts. Handling of labor and union issues. Labor unions are becoming more demanding in their efforts to affect the hospital's management decisions. Nurse Managers need to have the sophistication, skill and diplomacy in order to effectively address such concerns and issues. Creating a positive and performance oriented culture. A nurse manager has a great influence in establishing a positive and performance oriented culture by building an open communication with the staff and establish the standards of care, build an alliance with her staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team and assure that each one feels valued and committed to organizational goals.

Learning About Office Pools - Part 3 - Soccer Pools

Soccer is all the rage outside of the United States; a weekly soccer office pool that's been around for years is most popular in England. The English Premier League has worldwide recognition, and with gambling being mainstream in England, it's a natural fit. Much like in the United States, in England there are bets placed on single match-ups (fixtures), match-up groupings (office pools), and championship match-ups (tournament cups).

The regular season for the English Premier League is 38 weeks long beginning in August and ending in May each season. Each of the teams within the premier league plays each other twice, both at home and away. Premier league office pool is a weekly prediction pool in which a player makes an educated guess to the outcome of each match up; pick the winner or a draw (no winner). Every week there are six to 10 fixtures.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE

During the months of June and July, leagues throughout Europe play single elimination tournaments to declare an overall champion. In England there are both the Carling Cup and the FA Cup (Football Association Challenge Cup). The Carling Cup is really the league cup and sponsored by Carling, though in the past it's been sponsored by Coca Cola soft drinks and the Littlewoods retail and gambling outfit. Carling Cup is run by the league and only allows limited entries; 20 from the Premier League and 72 other teams are selected. The FA Cup was established in 1871 and is much more wide open when it comes to participants. This tournament allows over 700 teams to compete for entry into the FA Cup. As well as being presented with the cup, the winning team also qualifies by right for the first round of the UEFA Cup, unless they have already qualified for Europe in which case the position goes to the runners-up or to the highest placed Premier League side without European qualification.

The DFB-Pokal begins with a round of 64 teams. The 36 teams of the Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga are automatically qualified for the tournament. The tournament was established in 1935 and is a single elimination format.

The Coppa Italia (Italy Cup) is an annual cup competition that started in 1922. The format allows for 42 teams in competition which would play in the top 2 levels of Italian football associations Serie A and Serie B.

The Copa del Rey is an annual cup competition for Spanish football teams established in 1902. The naming of this tournament has a storied past which includes: King John Charles I's Cup, King Alfonso XIII's Cu,p and the Republic President's Cup. The tournament is single elimination and teams from upper and lower divisions will get to play against each other but the number of clubs allowed to participate is restricted.

The popularity of European Football is year round between the weekly fixtures and the summer tournaments. Office pools that accompany these match ups are a welcome companion and in some cases a necessary promotional tool.

The Male Nursing Student

Years ago there was an unspoken rule that women were teachers, nurses and men stuck to construction or physical labor. Today that unspoken tradition has been lifted and men as well as women are entering professions once thought to be unsexed. Since the differences in gender can offer unique benefits this has been a positive for just about every career field in the world. One of the most prominent fields that have seen an increase in male enrollment is the nursing profession. Today it is not uncommon to see as many male students as females, and not surprisingly they are excelling within the profession.

nursery glider

Any Attached Stigma

NURSE

Some males may still ponder the thought that there may be a stigma attached to their entering into the nursing field. What they must remember is the fact that the world has changed drastically. The division between males and females is not as clearly defined as it was ten or fifteen years ago. Today what a man can do a woman can do and vice versa. This has opened up opportunities to men and women to fulfill their life long dream. There is nothing feminine about wanting to care for patients or help those in need of medical assistance. Men are as compassionate as women and many have made a career out of something that they love.

Within The Profession

There are many different options and opportunities within the nursing profession. It is not only a career in the hospital or in a physicians office. There are other opportunities such as support groups, academics, education and a variety of other medical specialties. This is only one of the beauties of nursing, there are so many differing options. One nurse may find it fulfilling as a travelling nurse, while another desires to work with cancer patients or premature infants. This is a personal choice that is afforded to those with a nursing degree.

How Schools Recruit Males

Since the generation is one that has seen the clear cut division in the roles between males and females many universities have made an attempt to recruit male students. This may be by offering incentives or advertising directly at the male population. Textbooks, brochures and other educational information has also seen an update and now includes men as well as women. This helps remove the stigma and make men feel more included in the educational process as well as the profession itself. There are also many professional organizations and associations that promote the entrance of males into nursing roles.

Male Nursing Organizations

Organizations such as the American Assembly of Male Nurses has frequent conferences where male nurses convene, meet and discuss current issues in the medical profession. This is a great way for male nurses to come together across the country to learn about new opportunities and possible problems that others are facing. This is almost like a brotherhood organization that gives their members the ability to learn more about the profession and how to handle any differences that they could possibly face along their career journey.

Finding A Nursing School

Finding a nursing school that allows male students is no longer a problem or issue for those looking to enter the field. Today there is no discrimination based on gender, color or disability. Males are just as welcome to apply for admissions as their female counterparts. There are numerous universities nation wide that have nursing programs whether they be for a LVN, RN or the bachelors of nursing. Men are certainly not held back in any nursing program any longer, making them prime candidates for an excellent career in nursing. With the shortage of nurses today and what is projected in the future most of the medical field as well as universities are simply proud to have applicants. The nursing profession is facing shortages and there is some concern that over the next several years there will be a severe shortage of qualified applicants. This is a detriment to the medical profession and places hospitals, doctors and the like in jeopardy. Without nurses the patients are facing serious consequences as well as the nurses. The pay will likely continue to grow and benefits will be added along the way to draw those looking for a career to the nursing profession.

Becoming a Nurse - Which Nursing Field is Right For You?

For the typical person, all nurses seem to be exactly the same. There are very few differences, after all they all assist doctors, wear scrubs typically and handle a large number of patient needs quickly and efficiently. However, there are plenty of times when the nurses that are on staff are actually quite different. Because the medical field has a huge range of specialty fields there is a large number of people who are specialized nurses as well. What might be included in the job description for one nurse could easily be quite different for someone else.

nursery furniture

Within all of the different medical fields, such as emergency care, intensive care, pediatrics, and so forth there are nurses who are specially trained. The job requirements and skills that one department might rely upon could be vastly different than the skills and requirements that another department needs. While most consider nurses to simply always require good bedside manners, and the ability to take a temperature and wear scrubs there is far more to being a nurse than this.

NURSE

Many nurses are literally the only way that the doctors they work with can stay organized and together. Because of this, it is extremely important that they be properly matched to the segment of the medical field that they are best suited and most comfortable. For example, a nurse who does not like children would not do well in a family practice, pediatric, or even emergency room setting typically. However, they might do quite well working for a general practitioner, the intensive care unit, and even the neurology departments.

While some of the duties that nurses are assigned are quite small such as taking a medical history, or temperature there are other duties that are quite large and significant like administering medications, taking blood, and processing lab work that must be done.

The simple reality is that there is a very large number of nurses that fill an extremely large capacity within the medical field. From the basic nurse with minimal training, to the super experienced registered nurse there are plenty of places where you might fit in, and lots of opportunities to help people as a nurse regardless of the chosen field and position. With ample room for growth and development, nursing can be one of the most exciting jobs that you ever select.

Game Ideas For Handicapped Children Or Adults

People unintentionally don't usually know how to interact with another person who has a handicap of some type. I think our tendency is to just try to do everything for them when in fact they just want to be treated more like they were normal.

jackie evancho dvd

A person that is paralyzed is not necessarily mentally impaired. Watching TV or a Movie is about all most people think about doing with a handicapped person.

JACKIE

To make both parties visits more pleasant then try playing some games. Depending on the person's handicap you will have to pick a game that will work for them.

If you haven't visited a nursing home or school for special children then consider adopting one of these facilities and giving them some games that can be played by those living there. It would be a nice thing to do for Christmas. These people need some entertainment and something to stimulate their mind, not just clothes and personal items.

Word games are good for some people depending on their handicap. I have a friend that is confined to a wheel chair and has some limitation to the use of his hands but mentally he is very normal and sharp. He loves to play word games with his friends. One that he really likes is Bananagrams because the tiles are something he can handle and you don't have to use a pen and pencil to keep score.

A couple of other popular games are the Scrabble Crossword Game and Yahtzee. If the person has a computer then there are a lot of games that can be purchased for the PC. If you are buying for a nursing home then computers are not usually available for game playing.

Here are some games that can be played that don't take any funds to buy.

Sounds That Break the Silence: Have all players sit quietly and listen for a few minutes (set based on their age) and have them write down all the sounds that they hear. The one with the most valid sounds wins.

Alphabet and Nature: Learning about nature is fun for most everyone. Pick a category like dogs and cats and then try to name a breed for each letter of the alphabet.

A Bean Game: Give each player two paper plates with a number of dried beans on one of the plates. The goal is to use something like chop sticks to pick up each bean and move it to the other plate.

The free games are ones that are good to play with the children that you actually know and interact with in their game playing.

If you are planning on giving games to a school, nursing home or church program then you will probably want to select one of the games that you would need to purchase.

The idea though is to give the handicapped something to do other than watch TV.

Premier League Match Time: Arsenal Vs Newcastle

Premier League match time is here again with Arsenal hosting Newcastle United on Sunday in match week eleven.

Arsenal won 3-0, away at Newcastle in the Carling Cup last week, and they will be looking forward to more of the same as the Geordies visit the Emirates. For the Gunners, Theo Walcott scored a brace in the Carling Cup match against the Geordies and he could again prove the danger man for Chris Hughton's charges on Sunday.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE

In match week ten, Gunners were fortunate to bank three full points against West Ham as the Hammers hung on for the best part of 88 minutes, until Song headed a Gael Clichy past Green, into the West Ham net. Arsenal created many opportunities in the match without avail. Arshavin had a couple of early runs down the left flank. Later, the Russian fired in a cross only to see Song head over the bar.

Another great chance to score went abegging when a free kick was awarded after Boa Morte pushed over Denilson, but Nasri's shot though beating Green crashed into the crossbar.Wenger's charges owed their clean sheet on the day to a great showing by Gael Clichy in the back-line.

A midweek loss to Ukraine club Shakhtar Donetsk should have brought Arsenal back to earth, and they would need a disciplined effort to ensure they bank three points from the Magpies game.

Newcastle have recouped since their last loss to Arsenal with a 5-1 thrashing of Sunderland in match week ten. The win came on the back of skipper Nolan's hattrick. Ameobi scored the other two goals for the Geordies, including a penalty. Before the game, Sunderland had conceded just seven goals, this Premier League season, the fewest apart from Chelsea, but the Magpies' rampage left the Black Cats' defence in tatters.

Newcastle went on the attack from the starting whistle and Nolan opened his account off a Barton corner but only after a Carroll effort had been kept out by Sunderland 'keeper Mignolet.

Though the Gunners are bookmakers favourites to win at home on Sunday, the match could swing one way or the other depending on which side's strikers draw first blood.

For Newcastle, Sol Campbell could return against his former team, after being sidelined for a month with knee and thigh injuries; Campbell could be subjected to a late test by Hughton.

Apart from Campbell, Newcastle have injury worries in Harper, Ben Arfa, Best and Gosling. Arsenal's list of injured players is much longer and has Diaby, Ramsey, Vermaelen, Frimpong, Van Persie, Gibbs and Almunia on it.

Arsenal's starting eleven against West Ham comprised Fabianski, Sagna, Squillaci, Koscielny, clichy, Song, Denilson, Nasri, Fabregas, Arshavin, Chamakh Bendtner, Walcott and Eboue featured as substitutes.

The following players were in Newcastle's first eleven in their match against Sunderland: Krul, Jose Enrique, Coloccini, Williamson, Simpson,Tiote, Barton, Nolan, Gutierez, Ameobi, Carroll.

Ranger came in as a substitute.

What is Chromatography?

Loosely put, the term "chromatography" deals with the separation of substances within a mixture. Chromatography was invented by a Russian botanist who was studying materials in plant life by separating leaf pigments. By using chromatography, scientists are able to analyze a compound and figure out what elements substances constitute the makeup of that compound.

jackie robinson jersey

There are 4 major types of chromatography in use today:

JACKIE

1. Gas Chromatography is used in places like airports to detect bombs and also in crime scene investigation. Helium is used to separate elements from a compound by moving a gaseous mixture through absorbent material.

2. Liquid Chromatography is for testing water samples across the world. It analyzes metals and organic compounds in solutions to determine makeup.

3. Paper Chromatography is used for RNA fingerprinting, separating and testing histamines and antibiotics. This is the most common form of chromatography and uses a strip of paper to pull up the substances into the paper and separate them out from each other.

4. Thin Layer Chromatography is used in forensics and looks at the dye composition in fibers. It is also used to detect pesticides or insecticides in food.

Chromatography allows for separation of an element into the substances that makeup that element. In some cases, the compound looks to be made up of one substance to the naked eye. Utilizing the aspects of chromatography allows a scientist to decipher exactly what substances makeup any specific compound. Chromatography eliminates masking agents and even allows for the analysis of colorless and odorless substances.

The time saved by using chromatography to assess and analyze compounds in an environment benefits the user by allowing them time to delve deeper into other sections of an investigation. In the case of forensics, chromatography allows the investigator to better manage a scene by better managing the evidence gathered. Each of the above chromatography types has its own merits. The most widely used is paper chromatography. There are multiple uses for each of the chromatography types listed.

General job description

NURSE

The general job description of almost all nurses involves performing some basic duties including treating patients, educating people on various medical conditions, and providing emotional support and advice to patients and their families. In addition to this, nurses also record the medical histories of patients and their symptoms. Furthermore, nurses help in performing and analyzing the results of diagnostic tests. They also help in the rehabilitation of the patient.

Apart from what has been mentioned, registered nurses are also responsible for teaching patients and their families how to manage the illness, which may include teaching them about post-treatment home care. In addition to this, some nurses also provide grief counseling for families who may have a critically ill relative. Furthermore, nurses take the lead role in undertaking health screening, immunizations, blood drives and public health seminars.

Specialization

Registered nurses may opt to specialize in one field. The different types of specialization available to nurses are divided into four categories: specialization based on the work setting or type of treatment, specialization on certain diseases or conditions, specialization on a specific organ system, and specialization on a specific population. In some cases, nurses combine two or more of these specialization types. The duties and responsibilities for each vary depending on the area of specialization. One example of this is that a nurse who has specialized based on a work setting, like ambulatory care, would require a nurse to treat patients on an outpatient basis.

The career prospects for nurses, especially in countries with aging populations, can be expected to remain bright. As a result, it can also be expected that a lot of people would want to pick nursing as a career option. However, knowledge about the responsibilities that aspiring nurses can expect to have when they become nurses is an essential piece of information that could help them prepare for a demanding career.

In order for you to participate in this noble career, you will certainly need to receive proper training. A nursing course will equip you with the necessary skills to take up the job as a nurse. A comprehensive nursing program will provide you with scientific and medical knowledge, practical and clinical skills, communication and documentation skills, and interpersonal skills. Interpersonal skills are considered as one of the units to be covered because of the recognition of its important role in the nursing profession. Interpersonal skills are important because the nurse needs to interact with the patients effectively, treating them as people with physical, emotional and social needs and not just as patients with symptoms of illnesses. Furthermore, the nurse also needs to interact with the caregivers or relatives of the patients as part of their job to provide optimum care for the patients.

NURSE

In the nursing course, you will learn about nursing care within the health care system, assessing the health status of patients and recognizing the conditions of patients. Some courses focus on different areas according to the categories of patients. For example, there are courses such as, parent-child health nursing, women’s health nursing, psychiatric nursing, intensive care nursing and gerontological nursing. In most of the nursing courses, there is clinical work involved in which you need to work in hospitals, nursing homes, mental health clinics and other community settings. This clinical work will provide you with some hands on experience while working with patients and other health professionals. In addition, you will be offered additional training in areas such as the legal aspects of professional nursing, nursing management and nursing research.

The fundamental quality of a nurse is the ability to care. In providing care, you need to treat the patient as a person with physical, psychological and social needs. Besides, you also need to be empathetic and sensitive to the needs of the patient, as well as the patients’ relatives and friends. Undeniably, this job entails both physical and emotional demands. In working as a nurse, you will need to develop good communication skills. This is necessary because you need to communicate clear, concise and timely information to your patients, relatives of patients, as well as your colleagues. As a nurse, your responsibilities are considered important, sometimes even critical, especially you are required to dispense medication to the critically ill. An error on your part may result in drastic consequences. Hence, you have to carry out medical instructions carefully and efficiently.

Being a nurse is both challenging and rewarding. The challenges include meeting the needs of the patients and at the same time, coping with your own physical and emotional stress. The rewards are evident when you see the recovery of your patients, their gratitude towards your effort, the appreciation showed by the patients’ family for your care and the praise you received from your superiors for a job well done. Being a nurse gives you the opportunity to provide care for those who need it and experience the joy of seeing the rewards of your efforts. Do you want to touch the lives of others? If you are keen to create a positive impact on the lives of others, perhaps you can consider working as a nurse. To start a career in nursing, you need to take up a course. Premier League Preview - Fulham Vs Sunderland

It's Premier League match time at Craven Cottage on Saturday, December 11, as Fulham get set to host Sunderland in match week 17.

Fulham are coming off a hard fought 2-1 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates, in match week 16.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE

Barring the brilliance of Nasri in Arsenal's forward line, Fulham could have won the game. Their left back Briggs was simply unable to cope with Nasri and manager Mark Hughes took Briggs off after the first third.

Dempsey and Kamara were brilliant in Fulham's forward line and combined to score the equaliser on the half-hour after Nasri had put the Gunners ahead on 14 minutes. There were several missed opportunities for the Cottagers, not least by Kamara who cut the Arsenal defence in two, just before half-time, only to see Fabianski bringing off a good save. Another great chance was lost on 78 minutes when Etuhu shot wide with just the keeper to beat.

Sunderland beat West Ham 1-0 in match week 16, and the win propelled them into seventh place in the table. Henderson gave the Black Cats the lead on 34 minutes and that was enough for Sunderland to bank full points. Steve Bruce opted for an aggressive 4-3-3 formation, allowing for three strikers, Gyan, Wellbeck and Bent, to operate in tandem.

The move paid off as West Ham's defence was caught on the wrong foot. The Black Cats took control of midfield and did not allow Scott Parker to dominate. Cattermole and Onuoha were brilliant and set up the Gyan pass to Henderson that gave them the winning goal. Gyan continues to underscore why he is crucial to sunderland's fortunes this season. This was a cohesive performance by Bruce's men, where Mensah and Ferdinand were rock solid in the back line.

While Sunderland have jumped to seventh in the table and could bid for a Europa League qualification this season, Fulham are on the edge of the the relgation mine, at 17th.

Head to head, the sides have met 12 times in the Premiership, with Fulham winning 5, Sunderland winning 3 and 4 games ending without result. Incidentally, 4 of those wins for Fulham have come at Craven Cottage with Sunderland winning one of the six games played at the venue, with the remaining game drawn.

The last game between the sides in February 2010 was hosted by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light and ended in a goalless stalemate.

Fulham have been tough to beat at home this season, losing just 2 of 8 games hosted. That said, they have just won 2 of those games at Craven Cottage, while drawing 4. Sunderland have not had the best away record, losing 3 of 8 games on the road while drawing 4 and winning just the one.

Fulham had the following men in their starting eleven against Arsenal: Schwarzer, Pantsil,  Hangeland, Hughes, Briggs, Davies, Murphy, Etuhu, Dempsey, Gera and Kamara. The following players featured as substitutes: Andy Jonhson, Baird and Eddie Johnson.

Sunderland's starting eleven against West Ham comprised Gordon, Onuoha, Mensah, Ferdinand, Bardsley, Henderson, Cattermole, Richardson, Wellbeck, Bent and Gyan. The substitutes were Malbranque, Zenden and Elmohamady.

Building Strong Friendships

Having good friends is a very important part of our lives, and who we are friends with will say a lot in terms of the kind of lives that we live. A lot of research has been done on friendships, and many studies reveal that we are the people we are today because of the friends that we have.

jackie warner

If you want good and quality friendships in your life, then you need to be a good friend to others too. Most of us look at our friends as those we have fun with, as well as share life with. So, we should try and be the type of person towards others that we expect them to be with us.

JACKIE

Friends are meant to be there no matter what, and a really good friend will be with you in hard times when you need someone to lean on. So, return the favor too, and when your friends need a little TLC, be there for them to give them the assurance that they are not alone.

In many situations, all someone needs to lift their spirits is to know that their friend is there for them during hard times. So, just being available can really ease the difficulty they may experience.

Friends can easily drift apart, especially when life gets too busy and we don't make time to hang out and nurture our relationships. This is a sad commentary on the state of our relationships today, but at the same time it is important to not let this happen.

Finding the time to be with our friends is one of the most important things that we can do. We need friendships in our lives, and it is up to us to maintain those connections.

A hallmark of a good friend is one that accepts us no matter what our weaknesses are. Since all of us have annoying things that we deal with, friendships look beyond these things and concentrate on the good.

A good part of building strong friendships is to accept them no matter what and enjoy what each of you has that brings you together. Build upon the positive things and you will have deep and abiding friendships for life.

Manchester United Season Preview 2008/09

Last season Manchester United could say they arguably had their best season for a long, long time. They produced wonder seasons for the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, helping them to win the two big titles of the season; the Premier League and the Uefa Champions League.

Along with two titles came a Premier League top scorer and World Player of the Year within Manchester United's player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE

Once again it was Chelsea applying the pressure on Manchester United, coming close second in the league and the opponents in the final of the Champions League.

Manchester United overcame there big rivals to finish two points ahead of the London team. In the final of the Champions League, Chelsea looked like winners as the game went to a penalty shootout where only a fatal mistake by John Terry opened the Door for Manchester United to take the cup! All in all a great season for Manchester United.

Pre-season saw Manchester United play Aberdeen in their first friendly. United made a winning start to the new pre-season campaign, as goals from Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney sealed a hard-fought victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie. Playing many first team players such as Carrick, Rooney and Giggs.

A promising start by Aberdeen the talent and strength of Manchester United paid dividends to the English team as they comfortably won 2-0. Manchester United have three more Pre-season games scheduled, against the Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and the finally games is to be confirmed.

In the gap between seasons, Manchester United had the biggest transfer talk of the league concerning their star man, Cristiano Ronaldo! Media headlines involving millions of pounds for the Portuguese midfielder. The fate of the player is still undecided, whatever happens one thing's for sure it will not happen quietly the media and press will be all over it so you can't miss a thing.

Manchester United have not been the busiest in the market this year with only three players moving, two out from expired loans and one in on a short-term loan. This could possibly be down to the reason that Manchester United had so much success last season that they feel there is no need for improvement just yet!

Rumors say that Manchester United are looking into the possible signing of Robinho form Real Madrid.

But this is just a rumor who knows anything could happen! As well as interest in Robinho rumors have it that Manchester United are looking into a deal will Tottenham Hotspur, Dimitar Berbatov. Berbatov's future at White Hart Lane has been the subject of conjecture for some time, with the 27-year-old linked with a move away from North London for much of last season. So I can understand why there is interest in the top quality striker.

One downside to the pre-season start is that Manchester United lost their main coach Scolari. So first things first a new coach needed before the start of the season.

Responsibilities of Staff Nurse Jobs

The responsibilities of staff nurses reach out far and wide across the medical discipline. Staff nurses can be called RGN or RMN, as based on the field they belong to. For example, RMN stands for Registered Mental Nurse, or those who work in the psychiatric or mental health field. RGN, on the other hand, stands fro Registered General Nurse, or staff nurses that can work without specific specializations. Aside from different areas of specialization, staff nurses can also work in various settings. They can work in home or the community health field, which means that they work in community clinics. Or they can also work in hospitals. Staff nurses who work in hospitals can choose from amongst plenty of options. They can choose to work in the In-Patient Unit, the Out-Patient Unit, the Intensive Care Unit, and so on. With every specialization or area of expertise that staff nurses choose, the responsibilities may differ. However, staff nurses, in general, handle typical responsibilities that are very important to their specific areas.

nursery bedding

The core of the staff nurse's job is to provide nursing care to those who need it. A staff nurse becomes responsible for the well-being of the patient when he is under the nurse's watch. Providing nursing care also involves the regular check ups or monitoring of the patient's statistics and condition, and to report the same to the correct people. Aside from that, staff nurses are also responsible for the provision of treatments to the patients. These treatments usually require a certain schedule and should be completed to obtain any effects. This implies that the responsibility of the staff nurse to regularly provide treatment to the patients is very important and plays a key role in the overall recovery of any patient. As the treatments are being done, it is also important for the staff nurses to be able to explain it to the patients in the right way. It follows, then, that a nurse should also understand the treatments so they will be able to apply them properly. Staff nurses, especially RGN's, should immerse themselves in every aspect of nursing care to be able to do their job the right way.

NURSE

Aside from providing nursing care, staff nurses also have other responsibilities on the side. Staff nurses usually work within a group or team. These groups are responsible for the planning and implementation of nursing care policies for the benefit of patients. It is the team's responsibility to evaluate ongoing practices and implement changes as necessary, to improve the nursing care provided by the clinic or hospital. These teams are led by senior officers such as Senior Staff Nurses, who supervises the overall performance of the staff nurses and of the team.

On their own, however, staff nurses have more responsibilities. It is also their responsibility to gather information and learn about the medical history of patients that come under their care. Staff nurses should treat each patient as a separate study, wherein they have to understand the health of the patient as thoroughly as they can. And just as it is their responsibility to report findings and observations to those in the higher levels of hierarchy in the medical field, it is also their duty to relay information to the relatives of the patients. Finally, staff nurses also have administrative tasks, such as the completion of paperwork and reports.

Although staff nurses have plenty of responsibilities, a lot of people still choose to become staff nurses because the benefits simply make the completion of the responsibilities all worth it.

Premier League Match Time: Chelsea Vs Fulham

It's Premier League match time at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday as Chelsea host Fulham in this season's 12th round of matches.

Chelsea are back from an away loss to Liverpool, only their second this season, where Torres celebrated a glorious return to form with two precision strikes that brought the Merseysiders back into the reckoning.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE

After the game, Ancelotti would have mulled over his team selection at Anfield where he opted to bench Didier Drogba. In the circumstances, the Blues found themselves with a two goal deficit at the break, and the Ivorian eventually replaced Salomon Kalou in the second half.

Drogba got an opportunity in the form of a free kick that he shot wide. Liverpool's early strike dictated the rhythm of the game, and it gave the Merseysiders the confidence to call the shots in the first half. But the Reds appeared to lose nerve with about 25 minutes left in the game, and a strike by Chelsea at the time could have turned the game.

Anelka's shot got under Raina and bounced up and rebounded off the underside of the crossbar in what was the closest Ancelotti's charges came to scoring. Ramires, Zhirkov and Malouda also had chances go abegging, with Reina having a great day between the posts for Liverpool.

Chelsea need a fully fit Drogba in their line-up if they don't want to burn out before the season is through. Also, Ancelotti must be looking forward to Lampard's return to match fitness. In Lampard's absence the lack of creatuvity in midfield is palpable. The likes of Ramires and Zhirkov are not good enough against quality opposition.

But Lampard is likely to be rested against Fulham as the Blues' manager would want the midfielder fully fit for the Sunderland game.

Fulham have not won much after Mark Hughes became their manager. But they haven't lost many either. The squad have become draw specialists, and they lived up to this reputation against Aston Villa when a late goal from Hangeland helped staved off what would have been the Cottagers' second defeat of the season and salvage a point. Fulham have won just two matches this season and that places a question mark about their capacity to handle the better teams.

There was not much positive energy on display from Fulham in the Aston Villa game. Against Chelsea, they are likely to miss the absence of Zamora. While Chelsea have lost to their biggest rivals of the season thus far, in Manchester City and Liverpool, they have been clinical against lesser sides. The game against Fulham is likely to be no different.

Chelsea's starting eleven in the Liverpool game comprised: Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Alex, Cole, Ramires, Mikel, Zhirkov, Kalou, Anelka and Malouda; Sturridge, Bosingwa and Drogba played as substitutes.

The following players were in Fulham's starting eleven against Aston Villa: Schwarzer, Baird, Hangeland, Hughes, Salcido, Davies, Greening, Murphy, Gera, Dembele and Dempsey; Johnson, Kelly and Duff featured as substitutes.

Become a Nurse in Canada - Are You a Registered Nurse in Another Country?

Do you want to become a nurse in Canada?  Did you graduate and work as a registered nurse in another country?   The Canadian immigration doors are open to professionals particularly nurses who want to work in Canada.

nurse shoes

Why would you want to become a nurse in Canada?

NURSE

You can expect to earn an hourly wage between and depending on your level of experience and the province you work in.  The Canadian health care system is publicly funded which means that all hospitals are publicly administered.  You will receive the same salary no matter what hospital you work in because nurses are represented by  provincial labor unions.  There may be some variation in pay between provinces but there is a great deal of parity across the country in registered nurse salaries because of the labor unions. Besides the reasonable wages there are also employer paid benefits  that have been negotiated by the labor unions including vacation time, sick time, education leave, health insurance, and pension plans. Canadian immigration has a program for skilled workers that includes nurses.  If you have one year of experience as a registered nurse in your own country you can enter through this program.  If you do not have any experience in nursing you may have to enter Canada through the regular immigration process or through the provincial nominee program. You will never be short of work.  There are over 250,000 registered nurses in Canada and yet there is still an ongoing nursing shortage.  Presently that shortage is estimated at 78,000 registered nurses and is predicted to rise to over 110,000 by the year 2010.

Providing that the Canadian immigration rules, policies, and working visa requirements are met you must follow the correct procedure to become a nurse in Canada.  With the exception of providing proof of language proficiency this procedure is the same for all applicants even those educated in Canada.

Apply for your registration.

contact the provincial licensing body for registered nurses ( or licensed practical nurses ).  Be prepared to pay a fee for your application. submit all the documentation that supports your education, experience, and immigrant status. provide proof of English language fluency. This includes both reading, writing, and speaking.  Many provincial licensing bodies are now using the Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment  for Nurses.  Some provinces will require this condition to be met before they accept your application for registration. submit proof of a clear criminal records check.  You can expect to pay another fee for this. The police run a background check through a database to make sure that you do not have a criminal record.
Write and Pass the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam

Once all your documentation is reviewed and accepted as "equivalent" you will be given permission to write the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam or the Canadian Registered Practical Nurse Exam.  Which exam you write will depend on what type of nursing license you are seeking and what you qualify for.  All provinces have separate nursing regulatory bodies for registered nursing and licensed practical nursing except in Ontario where all nurses are under the same regulatory association.

Substantially Equivalent Competency Assessment

The number of internationally educated nurses who want to become a nurse in Canada is increasing every year and there have been some instances where nurses were entering the system unprepared for the real job of a registered nurse in Canada.  Because of the variations in Education for nurses around the globe  reviewing educational preparation and documentation turned out to not be a good predictor of success in the workplace in all cases.  As a result a new evaluation has emerged called the Substantially Equivalent Competency assessment or SEC.  This is an evaluation that uses both a written test and an observation of your applied clinical skills using simulated nursing situations for the Canadian health care system.

The SEC evaluations are being done mostly in the western provinces. You may be required to undergo an SEC if your paperwork is not sufficient to support an equivalent education or experience as would be required of a registered nurse in Canada.  This often happens when a nurse graduated in another country some time ago and has many years of experience but cannot produce the complete educational documentation to support the application.

When your application to write the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam is complete there may be a waiting period because the exam is only offered every four months.  However, you may be allowed to work during that time under a temporary nursing license provided all other requirements have been met.  You must however, have an employer willing to hire you under a temporary permit and if you do not pass the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam your temporary permit will be revoked.

Many internationally educated nurses are successful in obtaining their nursing license in Canada and the number of internationally educated nurses working in the Canadian health care system has gone up dramatically since the 1990's.  Between 2000 and 2007 approximately 20% of the candidates who wrote the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam were not educated in Canada.

Your journey to become a nurse in Canada might be lengthy so don't give up!  Being a registered nurse in the Canada health care system means having a secure well paid job that can provide you with challenge and meaning in your life, so it might just be worth it!

The Duties of a Hospice Nurse

A hospice nurse has various duties assigned to her and each nurse will have to take care of her own specific duty. One of the duties is that of a case manager wherein a nurse is entrusted with a single patient and has to foster a relationship with this patient which is long-lasting and trusting. Nurses who are assigned such duties have to be registered nurses and should be able to work independently. A hospice nurse is the direct connection between the patient and the physician and has to give a detailed account about the patient. The nurse should be able to assess the patient's condition well and apart from being a critical thinker should also be a compassionate person. They are usually the ones who will share the patient's last minutes with them.

Another duty of a hospice nurse is the admission or intake of a patient and this nurse is usually the first one who meets up and visits the patient. She explains the philosophy of hospice to the caregivers and figures out a plan for caring for the patient. After assessing the condition of the patient she coordinates with the physician about the medications which have to be given to the patient.

The third category of nurses is the visiting nurses who stands in for the case managers. In case the assistance of a nurse is required suddenly and the usual case manager is not available a visiting nurse will stand in for her. Visiting nurses are also licensed nurse who follow-up on the regular routine care of the patient which has been chalked out by the case manager. These nurses are always on emergency calls especially to attend to patients who are about to take their last breath.

A nurse who hardly ever gets to see the patient but helps when the patient calls in and gives instructions, this is the triage nurse. These nurses are called upon to give instructions when there is an emergency and the case manager is not available. Such nurses should have great communication skills and be a critical thinker who can give efficient advice on the phone.

While growing up in Pasadena Jackie and his minority friends felt the sting of prejudice by being excluded from the various recreational activities offered to young people in the area because of the color of their skin. In 1935 Jackie attended John Muir High School and it was here that his talent for sports was recognized. He loved all sports and being allowed to play them in high school he joined just about every team the school had to offer. On the baseball team he played shortstop and catcher. On the football team he played quarterback and a guard for the basketball team. Jackie won awards for the broad jump on the track and field. In 1936 he won the junior boys singles championship in the annual Pacific Coast Negro Tennis Tournament. In 1936 he was also named a player for the Pomona annual all star team. Interesting to note 2 other players on the team were Ted Williams and Bob Lemon who both became members of the elite Baseball Hall of Fame.

After high school Jackie attended Pasadena Junior College and continued playing baseball, basketball, football and track. After graduating from this 2 year college Jackie decided to enter the University of California, Los Angeles. Jackie was the first athlete in UCLA's history to win varsity letters in four sports; baseball, basketball, football and track. Robinson quit college before receiving his degree to take a government agency job as an assistant athletic director with the National Youth Administration in Atascadero, California.

JACKIE

In 1945 Jackie began his career in professional baseball in the Negro League playing for the Kansas City Monarchs. He played 47 games that season at the shortstop position. He batted an average of.387 with 5 home runs and 13 bases stolen. He was also named to the Negro League All-Star team. During this season Jackie tried out for the Boston Red Sox but was so humiliated by the racial slurs that he abruptly left the try outs. On October 23rd, 1945 Jackie Robinson signed with the International League farm club, the Montreal Royals, the first black player since the 1880's. The Royals were part of the Brooklyn Dodger's organization. Jackie played his first game in the season opener on April 18th, 1946 against the Jersey City Giants. That year Robinson lead the International League with a.349 batting average and a.985 fielding percentage. He was also named the Most Valuable Player in the league that season.

In the 1947 season Jackie Robinson was called up to the major league Dodger's team. Robinson's achievement of breaking the color barrier in baseball came with a price. During games he had to endure racial slurs from opposing team members and fans in the stands. Peewee Reese who was a teammate of Robinson came to Jackie's aid during one of these confrontations. Reese put his arm around Jackie's shoulder and said, " You can hate a man for many reasons. Color is not one of them." Jackie received the Major League Baseball Rookie of the Year. Jackie Robinson played his last major league game for the Brooklyn Dodgers on October 10th, 1956.

Besides the awards and achievements already mentioned Jackie was a 6 time All-Star selection, 1 time World Series champion and National League Most Valuable Player. He was also named to the Major Baseball League All-Century Team. His career stats were also pretty impressive with a.311 career batting average, 1518 hits, 137 home runs, 734 runs batted in and 197 stolen bases. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962, the first black player ever, and in 1972 his #42 jersey was retired by all the major league teams. Jackie Robinson died from a heart attack in Stamford Connecticut on October 24th, 1972. He was 53 years old.

Registered Nurse Jobs - Nursing School Survival Tips

Anyone that has attended nursing school knows that it is a challenge. Nursing encompasses so many areas of patient care. A nursing graduate needs to be ready with the knowledge to handle any situation they encounter. For this reason, the courses are rigorous and for some, overwhelming. Here are some tips to make it through to your shining new career.

nursery blackout curtains

Tip #1: Stay focused. With other pressures it is easy to get off track. Getting distracted could be the difference between success and defeat in nursing school. Remember the reasons that you decided to pursue a career in nursing. Let these things keep your nose to the grindstone even when the work piles up and you draw a blank on a test. There will be trying times to be sure, but they can be overcome.

Tip #2: Find a study group or partner. Some work better in groups and some with one other, but no one can survive working alone. Find a group of students that share your dedication and commitment. Hold each other accountable throughout the courses so that no one slacks off and falls behind. A study partner can share the workload. Each person can create a study guide for half of the chapter and make a copy for the other person. This also works in a group but the people in the group need to be reliable. One person not doing their part can jeopardize the grades of the entire group.

Tip #3: Get some sleep. Sleep deprivation never helped anyone. Cram sessions may seem like a good idea at the time, but all it does is delay the inevitable. Once you get comfortable in your seat and prepare to take the test, you will begin to fall asleep. Our brains function better with at least six to eight hours of sleep a night. We retain more information and think clearly. Sleep gives our body a chance to shut down and our cells get some work done without all the moving around.

Tip #4: Manage your stress. Stress is deadly. Stress causes unhealthy changes in every system in the body. Stress causes headaches, dizziness, illness, mood swings, and other symptoms that you don't need to experience while trying to successfully complete nursing school. Find a way to unwind after classes each day. Listen to soothing music, take up an exercise program, go to the movies, or read a book. Whatever you do, make it a part of your everyday routine and don't push it aside to get other things done. You need to relieve stress before it gets a chance to build up and cause real problems.

Tip #5: Stay informed. Learn when the boards will be taken so you can have ample time to prepare. Find out about study sessions, instructor's office hours, registration for next semester, and the like. Staying informed reduces stress. You won't be running around at the last minute trying to get things done if you know ahead of time and make a schedule. If you need help, make a list of all available resources and use them as the need arises.

Tip #6: Rewrite your notes. This one can be time consuming, but it is a helpful tool for remembering what was said in class. People who aren't fast note takers can also use a tape recorder to record the classes and write up notes later on from the lecture tapes. As you write things down or rewrite, the mind silently follows along. It is like reliving the lecture again. This time, there is no pressure to get all the notes down. Your mind can concentrate on the material and absorbing it.

Don't cross out nursing school as an option because it is hard. Lots of things are going to be hard in life, but each task can be accomplished with the right tools or in this case, tips. Use these tips as a guide to get you started on the right foot in pursuit of a nursing job.

Being a Psych Nurse: What a Career!

The very next question they ask is "How do you do that." Sometimes, I wonder myself. After working, for 21 years in the same, state funded mental hospital. Where we have a very unique group of people, that come through the admission process for many different reasons.

nursery furniture

The ones that come from jail usually laugh at the system because they have told them they are going to hurt themselves which gets them into a "private" cell - or admitted to our hospital for evaluation. Very few that come in from jail are upset they are in our facility because the food is better, they have a bed verse being in jail with just a mat on the floor and some don't get a mat. They get to shower every day and clean clothes, and color TV.

NURSE

I have sat on the hall and watched TV with some of these guys/gals as we talk about why they are in the hospital. The man who told me about killing his wife and now being evaluated for observing a murder but had yet to be proven was unique. We were watching TV and having conversation over killing someone like people have coffee and talk about shopping. When I went back to the office - I chuckled to myself. How does any of that make sense?

Only when I try to tell someone about my day does it sound really weird coming out of my mouth. Otherwise, I don't really think about it - I guess after 21 years - it is an odd normal.

Being a Psych Nurse has its own stresses and it is not for everyone. Nursing in general has a different set of stress that someone working in a factory or a business office would not have to deal with. Becoming a nurse is in a way like joining a military service. From the moment you say your oath your life is run under a set of rules.

I found it not so funny that the length of my fingernails, my hair, the clothes that I am allowed to wear, the amount of jewelry that can be worn sized by a dime, to take a bath daily, no perfume, no wild pink hair can be worn (sorry Sandi), all of these are found in a SOP (system of operating procedure). My life is found in a SOP!

I am told what time and what days to show up to serve. I am only given 6 minutes to clock in early and 6 minutes to clock out past the hour. If I show up late - I have to confess to a supervisor. If I want to leave early I have to ask permission. To spend extra time with my family or go on vacation I have to ask permission to have the time off.

I know what you're thinking... those are things listed for most jobs.

After following superiors with very little to zero leadership skills over the years and watching the temper tantrums and dishonest actions take place - it has encouraged me to become a nurse entrepreneur. What they have taught me is how I do not want to run my company and how I do want to encourage the customers I have the privilege to serve.

My desire is to empower the nurse who works in the mental health field/ nursing field. Not just for nurses - but those that nurse others in life. Most nurses rarely want to get out of the nursing field all together but they do want to take back the control over their life and not be dependent on someone who is not concerned about the important things to each nurse's personal life. Do you want to learn more about being a nurse entrepreneur -

Nurse Jobs All Over The World

If you are interested in working as a nurse in another country besides the U.S., then you are probably looking for information about nurse jobs all over the world. You might be a nurse interested in re-locating to a different country or someone looking for a good career abroad. Either way, you may want to compare nursing information as it applies to other countries around the world. Let us get you started with a brief overview of nursing requirements and traditions in the U.K., Canada, Australia, and South Africa.

One great option in nurse jobs all over the world is the nursing professions of the United Kingdom. Nursing in the UK has a rich history. Since the famous nurses of WWII, people often think of the UK when they think of lifesaving nurses. Today, if you want to become a nurse in England, Scotland or Ireland, you have two choices. You can become a first-level nurse or a second-level nurse. First-level nurses typically need to complete three to four years of schooling and on average will earn the most. Second-level nurses are state-enrolled nurses and typically only need to complete two years of education. Either way, the occupation of a nurse in the United Kingdom is a good one.

Another option in nurse jobs all over the world is Canada. Even though Canada is so close to the U.S. geographically, their nursing practices and requirements are quite different. Most provinces in Canada require their nurses to have Bachelor Degrees, whereas in the U.S., you have the option of just two years of schooling. But the U.S. and Canada do have some things in common when it comes to nursing. They both have Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses. Canadians also have Registered Psychiatric Nurses, licensed to practice mental health specifically.

Another great choice in nurse jobs all over the world is Australia. A nurse in Australia has the option of being a Nurse Practitioner, a Registered Nurse, or an Enrolled Nurse. An Enrolled Nurse is a nurse that has completed the basic nurse training and certification, but has chosen to get additional training in a more specific field. This optional extra training is traditionally 6 or 12 months long and makes it easier to get a good job. There has recently been discrepancy over the professional courtesy title in Australian nursing, with the popular "sister", traditionally used to describe both female and male registered general nurses, becoming outdated. It is now advisable to refer to each nurse in Australia by their first name instead.

One other great option in nurse jobs all over the world is South Africa. The beautiful southern coast of this historically rich country often beckons to a lot of people. If you're one of them, you might consider becoming a nurse in this lovely area of the world. Becoming a nurse in South Africa might be considered easier than in other countries, because there is just one kind of nurse there and only 2 years of training are required for the job. The standard training also includes 2,000 hours of clinical practice.

Dallas (Season 3) DVD Review

Nominated for 18 Emmys and 15 Golden Globes in its thirteen season run, Dallas is the epitome of the prime-time drama/soap opera genre. Premiering in 1978 as a five part mini-series, the show combines the usual sex and innuendo of classic afternoon soap operas with the freewheeling adventure of Texas wildcats and filthy rich capitalist oil barons. The combination of business dealings and rampant affairs tested well with both the male and female demographic, prompting CBS to make Dallas a regular part of its prime-time lineup. The result was one of the most successful television shows in history. In fact, the so-called 'Who shot J.R.?" episode ("A House Divided" Air Date: 3-21-1980) still reigns as the second most watched TV show in history (the season finale of MASH is #1). With one of most memorable characters ever created (the man everybody loves to hate), it's no surprise that Dallas held the #1 or #2 spot in the Nielsen ratings for most of the 1980s...

The Dallas (Season 3) DVD features a number of exciting episodes including the season premiere "What Ever Happened to Baby John" in which Sue Ellen returns to Southfork after recovering from the previous season's car wreck and delivering the Ewing's first grandson, John Ross. But Sue Ellen is not joyous. In fact, she sinks into a deep depression marked by bouts of alcoholism. Meanwhile, J.R. has taken on a talented lawyer, Alan Beam, as his understudy... John Ross remains in the hospital, recovering from his premature birth, until the family learns that he's been kidnapped.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE

Everyone offers a theory on who did it, but it takes Pam's powers of observation to solve the mystery... Other notable episodes from Season 3 include "Ellie Saves the Day" in which the family learns of J.R.'s devious plan to mortgage Southfork in order to drill for oil in Asia, and "A House Divided" in which J.R.'s crooked deal of selling the rights to Ewing Oil's Asian wells to his friends (because he knew they would soon be nationalized) comes back to haunt him when the season finale ends with his being shot in the most famous cliffhanger in television history...
