What's In Your Meat?

Most people don't want to know what they are ingesting when they scarf down that hot dog at the ballpark. If they took the time to learn what they are putting into their bodies by eating processed meats, I can assure you, they would think twice about doing it again. How many of us really want to "see" how our processed meat is made?

If anyone bothered to read the labels on packages, in almost every instance, you will find sodium nitrite as an additive. Sodium nitrite is also a known chemical that has been linked to breast cancer, colon cancer, and pancreatic cancer. Conclusive evidence from over 5000 studies has caused the World Cancer Research Fund, after reviewing these studies, to suggest that there is no safe level of consumption of processed meats.

They are not just talking about hot dogs...you have to also include lunch meat, bacon, ham, all canned meats, and any type of sausage product. If you feel you just can't go without these food items, realize that you are setting yourself up to be a cancer victim in the future, or at least read your labels and if it has sodium nitrite in it...don't buy it!

The use of sodium nitrite gives cured meat its pink-reddish color, as well as prevents the meat from spoiling for a longer length of time. Perhaps it's time to go back to the old-school way of grocery shopping a couple of times a week in order to buy fresh, instead of relying on byproducts that are hazardous to our health.

It's about time an organization of this prominence has finally stepped forward to let people know the truth about our eating habits and what is being passed off to us as food is also killing us! Wouldn't you think this would be important enough that it would be plastered across every newspaper in America?

In all fairness, the opposing side of the FDA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture believe that nitrite is a safe ingredient and is not associated with cancers in humans at the levels used. But it also has to be noted that their studies and conclusions were funded in part by an unrestricted educational grant from the American Meat Institute Foundation.

MSG (monosodium glutamate) is another chemical that is widely found in processed foods. MSG is an excitotoxin that is linked to migraine headaches, Alzheimer's, obesity, and many other ailments. MSG is used for flavoring in dead-tasting processed meats, along with high levels of sodium (salt).

Thus far we've learned that they artificially color the processed meat, they use MSG and high sodium content to make it taste better...and now millions of people are eating this normally "undesirable" stuff and coming down with health problems! Is it any wonder health problems are on the rise considering the large amount of these products that are sold daily due mainly to their convenience factor.

Perhaps if you saw close-ups of what processed meat looks like (warning - not for the squeemish): Close-ups , you will then decide to eliminate these products from your diet. The bottom line...processed meats are just too dangerous for human consumption and should be avoided for life!
