This is a fun craft, that requires no needles, and no sewing, so it is a perfect project to have your children to help you out with, or even make their own. What a nice surprise for a grandparent, a hand made gift.
So to get started let's see what we need:
JACKIE
Fabric
Pillow form
Scissors
Let's talk about the fabric you need for a moment. I use fleece for this project, just because it's so soft and snuggly. It also does not ravel, so the pillow will stay in tact and last nicely. You can also use other non fraying materials such as lycra or knit. You can use any fabric really, but the ones that don't fray will be best for durability.
Now let's talk about the measurements. You will need to choose a pillow form first, as you will be measuring your fabric off the form. You need to measure your form and then add a 4 inch allowance on all 4 sides. If your pillow form is 16 inches by 16 inches you need to get your fabric 20 X 20 inches. (it never hurts to give yourself and inch or so extra, it just means your tassles will be a little longer.)
Now on each corner cut out a 4 inch by 4 inch square. This will make your corners come out nicely.
Then go around the entire piece of fabric and cut pieces that are 1 inch by 4 inch. This is going to make your fringe. Make sure to use very sharp scissors or this will be a long and frustrating process.
Once all your fringe pieces are cut set your pillow form on top of one of your pieces, and then lay the other on top of the pillow form. Your cut pieces should line up. Now start tying together a bottom piece and a top piece. You want to tie every other one all the way around the pillow. Once you have finished then flip the pillow over and tie all the remaining fringe pieces together. Going every other one will make the pillow more even and more durable.
Once you are finished tying each of the pieces together you are done, and have a very cute no sew pillow.
