It's Premier League match time on Saturday, November 13, as Manchester United travel to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa in gameweek thirteen.
Villa are coming off a 3-2 win over Blackpool on Wednesday; Houllier's charges will consider themselves lucky to have won a game in which the Tangerines equalised with barely four minutes of regulation time left. As it transpired, Villans' winning header from Collins came against the run of play off a Downing corner in the 89th minute.
SEASON 3 PREMIERE
The Villans took the lead twice only to lose it but kept their head in a contest that was dictated for the larger part by the Seasiders. Holloway opted to go with untested youngsters and Tangerines' pacy teenage winger Phillips rattled the Villa defence. But Villa will take comfort from a positive showing up front, with Downing, Ashley Young, Luke Young, Delfouneso and Albrighton playing substantial roles.
This was Villa's first win in six matches and the three points they banked saw Houllier's squad climb up to 10th position in the points table.
Manchester United goalless draw against Man City on Wednesday ensured that the Red Devils continued to remain unbeaten this season. But with Chelsea edging out Fulham in their game on the day, Sir Alex's squad are four points adrift of the leaders.
In a game that saw Hernandez consigned to the bench for 77 minutes until he substituted for Berbatov, United dominated without creating many scoring opportunities. They failed to capitalise on the few that did come their way, with Berbatov, Nani and Evra among those whose efforts failed to test Hart between the City posts.
United will take consolation from maintaining a clean sheet in a season when their back-line has not been their stringest feature, and on the day, they nearly got undone by an O'Shea error late in the game. Ferdinand is back to full match fitness, and the Old Trafford squad will hope to build on that, as the season wears. But Scholes will miss out on the day having received a second card after bringing down Man City's Milner in match week twelve.
Their away record this season must worry Sir Alex, and United will look forward to playing at Villa Park as the perfect destination to begin to rectify that record.
Aston Villa had the following players in their starting eleven against Blackpool: Friedel, Young, Dunne, Collins, Warnock, Albrighton, Clark, Bannan, Downing, Young and Delfouneso; Agbonlahor, Ireland and Lichaj featured as substitutes.
