Head to head, in the last 17 league games between the sides, Newcastle have won 8 while Sunderland have emerged victorious in 3, with the remaining 6 games ending in stalemates.

The concept of promotion and relegation in English soccer is a difficult one for most American sports fans to grasp immediately. That is not the case in the English soccer 'pyramid', where the different levels of soccer are directly connected through a series of promotions and relegations.

Vision is one element that is pivotal for any dream to become a reality. When you as the dreamer fail to see beyond today in terms of where the dream will becomes hard to solicit the much needed support and guidance. The same vision is also used to craft the mission statement. However, any vision that is formulated must be approved by the founder to ensure there is no massive deviation from the original intention.

- Avoid discouragement, tell people you trust - You may be discouraged if you preempt your vision to jealous elements. Tell people who can help you think deeper and sharpen your approach to your vision. Some people will label you "a dreamer" even if the dream is so good.

- You must be excited about your own vision - There is no use pursuing what you are not passionate about. What for? You are guaranteed of fatigue along the way. If you are not passionate about it then stop and rethink.

The Hawthorns will witness Premier League match time again, as West Brom get set to welcome Chelsea in match week 33 on Saturday, April 16.

Saturday's game is the second of a two-legged contest, with the first, hosted by Chelsea on August 14, 2010, having ended 6-0 in Chelsea's favour. Chelsea's dominant win helped erase memories of rusty pre-season form displayed especially by players like Cech and Drogba. The win was to launch an early season lead on the points table that Chelsea were to enjoy for about 15 weeks, until they conceded the lead to Manchester United.

Despite some good individual performances by the likes of Mulumbu, Thomas and Dorrans, Albion were out of their league, against the champions.

Head to head, Chelsea have enjoyed a 9-0 clean sweep in the last nine league games between the sides.

In their last 10 league games, West Brom have registered 4 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses; Chelsea have won 6 of their last 10, while losing and drawing 2 each. Of their 16 home games this season, West Brom have won 6, drawn 6 and lost 4, while Chelsea have won 6 of their 16 games on the road, while drawing and losing 5 each.

In match week 32, West Brom won 3-2 away at Sunderland, while Chelsea registered a 1-0 home win against Wigan.

Chelsea's hopes of retaining their crown have faded but the champions could still hope to displace Arsenal in second position. West Brom, in mid-table, appear safe - for now-- from the relegation mine, but are merely seven points adrift of West Ham in 18th place. Any points salvaged from Saturday's game would help, in an extremely tight season.

The Championship League

The Football Championship League which is often called 'The Championship' for short, is sponsored by Coca-Cola which means that it's official name is the Coca-Cola Football League Championship. It is the Highest Division in the Football League and the second highest overall in the English football league system. The highest being the Premier League.

The Football League Championship came into being for the 2004-2005 season having been known prior to that as the Football League First Division. The league is made up of 24 teams who each play a total of 46 games through out a season. A single season runs from August of one year, through till May of the next year. During this season, the 46 games that each team plays are made up of them playing each other team twice. One of these games is played as a 'home' game - at their own stadium, and the other as an 'away' game - at their opponent's home stadium.

When a game is played, the team is awarded points based on whether they win, draw or lose the game. They receive three points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points if they lose the game. These points are used to rank the teams in the league table. If two or more teams have the same number of points, then the goal difference and then goals scored is taken into account in order to rank them correctly.

At the end of the season, the team with the highest number of points is the league champion. The two teams finishing in the top two positions are promoted into the Premier League and the bottom three teams are relegated to Football League One. Also, the teams finishing in positions 3, 4, 5 and 6 compete in the Championship playoffs. This is a knockout competition, with third place playing sixth place, and fourth and fifth place teams playing each other, with the winners of each match playing a final match against each other. The winner of this game win promotion up into the Premier league as well as the Championship playoff trophy. The three teams who have been promoted are replaced in the division by the three teams relegated from the bottom of the Premier League. Likewise at the bottom of the league table, the three teams that have been relegated to Football League One, are replaced by the teams who have been promoted from there into this league ready for the next season.

A fairly large percentage of the league's revenue comes from television rights. The television rights for the Football League Championship are currently held by Sky Sports who have bought this exclusive right until the 2009-2010 season when they will show 65 matches live. The BBC will at that time also show 10 live games per season. The three year contract deal is worth a total of £264 million that will be paid mostly by Sky.

The two contenders fighting for "Top Premium Movie Channel" currently are HBO and Showtime. These premium cable networks not only offer great movies, but are now becoming known for "hit TV shows". Lets breakdown these two "Heavy Hitters" and see which one gives you more bang for your buck.

HBO has 9 movie channels, 2 of which channels are in High Definition (HD). Their movies combine a good mixture of new releases and older movies. They have a good variety of movies and change their featured movies monthly. HBO has better new releases and looks to have a bigger share in the new release market.

Showtime Movies-

Showtime has 7 movie channels (including The Movie Channel), and provide a Showtime Channel and The Movie Channel on HD. Showtime has a decent variety of movies, but The Movie Channel lacks in their movies. Showtime offers new releases but many are inferior to the new releases that HBO is providing.

HBO TV Series-

HBO has a lot of TV Shows that are now featured such as "Entourage", "Eastbound & Down", "Curb Your Enthusiasm", "Hard Knocks", "Hung", "Bill Maher", and "True Blood". HBO for a long time has been successful in TV series with shows such as "Sex in the City" and "The Sopranos" but these recent TV Shows have added to the depth of HBO and make them a top contender for best premium channel.

Showtime TV Series-

Showtime is currently featuring 6 TV series which include "Weeds", "Dexter", "Penn & Teller", "Nurse Jackie", "Inside the NFL", and "The Tudors". Showtime has two hit TV Series which are "Weeds" and "Dexter" but the other series leave the consumer wanting more series to the caliber of the two major hitters. If Showtime were able to create more hit TV series they could take the reign from HBO who has been the leader since "Sopranos" and "Sex in the City".

This was a tough decision but we have to give the Fight to HBO. HBO provides more of a variety, which makes it more appealing to the customer. Showtime has done a great job in the last couple of years with the release of "Weeds" and "Dexter" but need a couple more TV series to compete with the reigning champ HBO. Only time will tell, but Showtime is making progress and I think it's only a matter of time until they conquer the almighty HBO.

Premier League Match Time: Manchester United Vs Wolves

It's Premier League match time in match week eleven at Old Trafford when Manchester United host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

Wolves recorded a shock 2-1 win against Manchester City at Molineux in match week ten, only their second after beating Stoke on the opening day of the Premiership on August 14. There were many pluses for Wolves in a game that saw a brilliant performance by Matt Jarvis, who surely must have caught Fabio Capello's attention for an Engand call up. Steve Hunt made his presence felt on the other flank as Wolves rode out convincing winners.

The come-from-behind win was made possible by a great team effort in which Mick McCarthy's squad were helped by the return to action by their skipper Doyle after serving out a three match suspension, following a red card offence against Wigan.

After a recall to the side, Edwards scored his first goal in 14 months, and had a couple of near misses, including a header that crashed against the post off one of Jarvis's innumerable crosses. Milijas, another player returning from injury against Mancini's charges fired the equaliser in the 30 minute after adebayor had put City ahead seven minutes earlier. Edwards winner came 10 minutes into the second half.

Ahead of the Manchester United game, Wolves continue to miss Craddock who could play against Arsenal next week. Apart from Kightly, Zubar and Guedioura are also on the injured list for Wolves.

Wolves are in the middle of a series of matches against the big four; the win against City followed a loss to Chelsea in match week nine. With three points in the bank from the first two, the Wanderers must feel confident ahead of Saturday's game.

Manchester United's first away win against Stoke in match week nine appears to have got them into their stride making the Rooney saga a distant memory with the Red Devils recording a back to back win against Tottenham, last week. Regardless of the contentious 84th minute goal by Nani, united were the dominant side against spurs and thoroughly deserved their win. Both Berbatov and Hernandez had missed chances that could have made the margin even worse for Tottenham.

The clean slate United kept against Spurs should cheer them up a great deal in a season in which their back line has contrived to squander the lead six times in nine matches. With Ferdinand back to match fitness, and all the forwards firing, United are bound to give Chelsea a run for their money at the top of the table,

With neither team having any new injury worries ahead of Saturday's game, they are likely to go with unchanged sides, although with Jarvis and Hunt so effective on the flanks, Sir Alex might consider a call up for O'Shea.

As ever, the Old Trafford squad will be hard to beat at home, but Wolves will take cheer from their Carling Cup performance last week when they ran the Red Devils close, and they achieved it without their top players; the final score in that match was 3-2 in United's favour.

For United, apart from Rooney, Owen, Gibson and Valencia, Nani is also likely to be sidelined with an injury sustained in the Spurs match.

Nurse Jackie's Hospital Administrator

Nurse Jackie is one of Showtime's hottest shows this season. Featuring Edie Falco, an HBO veteran from the hit The Sopranos, as an amoral emergency room nurse dedicated to saving lives, while cheating on her husband and indulging in powerful painkillers to combat her back pain, the show transcends typical medicine dramas popular in primetime television by focusing on those who heal, not those who diagnose.

This Showtime drama also features The West Wing's Anna Deavere Smith as Gloria Akalitus, a nurse-turned-hospital administrator. Akalitus is the butt of many a joke in the show, getting giddy off of Jackie's Percocet-laced coffee, accidentally tazering herself in an elevator, and questioning a gay nurse about how to obtain adoption papers for a child left at a nursing station.

Where lies the line between fact and fiction in the characterization of this hospital administrator? Frankly, the line zig-zags. Hospital administrators play an important part in the inner workings of the hospital, and help to keep everything running smoothly. But in a dark comedy like Nurse Jackie, Akalitus is a walking punch line, providing a much needed dose of laughter amidst so much darkness. However, if her employees behaved themselves, Akalitus would most likely seem like an average nursing supervisor.

In one notable episode, Akalitus urges Jackie Peyton to make a dying man vacate a bed due to overcrowding. Jackie asks her to look at the man again, not as a healthcare administrator, but as a nurse. Akalitus allows Jackie until the end of the day to find him another place to stay, because she realizes that he'll be dying soon.

This aspect of Akalitus' character may be legitimate. It would be logical for a nurse to become a supervisor. Many hospital administrators began as healthcare workers. However, it's not a simple jump from nurse to administrator. Most have at least a Masters degree in Health Services Administration, although some pursue degrees in public or business administration. Hospital administrators with financial backgrounds may go on to become Chief Financial Officers or Chief Executive Officers.

Education includes a year of interning in a health care center, and most administrators begin as administrative assistants for large hospitals, before pursuing higher positions in smaller institutions. Therefore, it's unlikely that Akalitus would be working alongside her former peers, as she probably would have needed to move elsewhere to find a position.

In another episode, Akalitus stays late to oversee Jackie making the time schedules, having noted that she always seems to be working with friends. One of the responsibilities of the hospital administrator is the maintenance of the budget. The hospital administrator would be responsible for the schedule of the nurses being overseen.

Finally, Gloria Akalitus appears to work alone. This is definitely true. There is often only one hospital administrator in a small hospital, and larger hospitals need a single administrator for each department. All Saints, the fictional hospital at which Nurse Jackie works at, seems like a large hospital. As a result, it would be common for a health care administrator to oversee the entire department alone.

2. Self-discipline helps you build integrity and credibility. Temptations are all around us. I'm not saying this only in the religious sense. Rather, these temptations will offer instant pleasure at a very great cost to your integrity and credibility. It may be drugs, or a one-time opportunity for stealing money. With self-discipline, you can stand up against these things.

3. You can achieve anything if you have self-discipline. If you've watched Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies, you'll be amazed at their proficiency in martial arts. They didn't arrive there overnight. They practiced self-discipline years upon years before achieving mastery. With such mastery, they were able to use their skills in achieving success.

4. You can live a better life with self-discipline. With self-discipline, you can manage your finances better, you know your priorities and you can say no to anything that could ruin your life. With self-discipline, you can live a better life.

5. Lastly, self-discipline maximizes happiness. Delayed gratification can lead help you maximize happiness. The problem with instant gratification is that when you want something and you get right away, your happiness can last only so long as your excitement. With delayed gratification, you know that you've waited for something for a long time. Therefore, when you get it, the success is sweeter and happiness is deeper.

As the defending champion, Chelsea starts as one of the favorite to winner the title again. Reality Shock For Graduate Nurses

So now you are close to graduating from nursing school or you have graduated recently. Whichever the case, you will be in for a reality shock when you begin your career as a Registered Nurse. What do we mean by the term, "reality shock"? Well, like the term says, it is the reality that shocks us. The question you may ask is, "so there is a difference in the reality of being a student or graduate nurse"? The answer is an emphatic, YES!

First of all, as a student nurse you were given assignments that were not beyond the scope of your practice or ability. In addition to that, you were working under your instructor's license and whether or not you were aware, they kept a very close watch on you. Therefore, there was a safety net that always hovered beneath you in case you were to fall. This is not the case as you take on the title, Registered Nurse. There is no safety net. You are out there by yourself, free to make decisions and make mistakes. With those decisions and mistakes you are also, FULLY ACCOUNTABLE.

Now imagine yourself with eight or more patients. You may be asking yourself, "What do you mean eight or MORE patients?" Most student nurses never have more than six or seven patients and that is only at the very end of the program. Even then, the student nurses can delegate tasks to assistive personnel thereby lessening their work load. However, there will be time that you will be on a floor, without any assistive personnel, with more than eight patients and no one to rely on except yourself. To compound this scenario, there may be patients that have very critical care pathways that you must follow, incoming calls from patient's families, doctor's, operating room staff, and other collaborative care departments requesting information.

Now, let's stop this scenario in its tracks. You probably feel the stress building by just reading the previous passage. If so, don't worry, it is a perfectly normal reaction. So, relax, and know that there are ways to ease this inevitable right of passage. Let's take a look at some of the ways to help ease and deal with reality shock.

1. First of all, it is important to understand that, "reality shock" does indeed exist and you will come face to face with it. Knowing what you will face is most of the battle. The task at hand then becomes, knowing what steps to take and resources to use, and how to use them.

2. Learn as much as you can during your in-service training program, which usually lasts up to eight weeks or more. This means familiarizing yourself with every inch of your floor. Know where everything is located, from safety pins to I.V. tubing. You may never know when you may need it, NOW, and the worst thing that can happen is that you spend precious time looking for something as small as a safety pin.

3. Know, who the assisted personnel are, and know them by name and face. Find out who will be the ones that you will be working with during your shift. What usually happens during in-service training is that graduate nurses train on the main shift, which is most frequently days, before transferring to the shift that they have been hired to work. Therefore it is very important to know who you will be working with during your shift. Try also to develop a working relationship with the assistive personnel. Remember, it is not a popularity game, you are not out to make best friends. Your goal is quality patient care, and the patient comes first.

Let your intentions be known that your number one goal is to give the best patient care that you have respect for the care team assistive personnel and are a willing and helpful body to them as well. In doing this, you will have disabled the invisible wall that exists between nurses and assistive personnel. That wall is the one entitled, I am a NURSE and you are ONLY an aide. One thing that you must strive for is to use an even tone of voice, and fairness when delegating. You must also remember the rights of delegation, which are as follows,
a. the right task,
b. the right person,
c. the right communication, (must be clear and concise),
d. the right feedback, (the person who is delegated the task must comprehend what it is that is asked of them and let the nurse know that they comprehend). By doing this you are ensuring that patient care will not suffer do to a personality glitch, which could have been avoided.

4. Know, know and KNOW where the Policy and Procedure manual is located on the floor. Part of your hospital in-service will include the introduction of the Policy and Procedure Manual. This is the manual that you will have to refer to many times for protocol from everything from changing out a Foley Catheter to transporting a patient to another floor. The final analysis will be in any investigation, "did the nurse use and follow the Policy and Procedure Manual?" You want to always be sure that you follow the rules and protocols contained in your institutions manual. Therefore, you should know where it is located and be familiar with how to look up various procedures and policies.

5. the policy regarding medication errors. Most everyone makes them and it is crucial that you know what paperwork is required to be filled out. It will come in handy. You cannot just, "wing it", when making a decision, you have to follow protocol.

6. Use assertive communication when interacting with doctors'. Assertive communication indicates that you are aware of yourself and your limitations as well as your liability to the patients that you care for. Using this form of communication with over assertive medical personnel will help you function to your maximum capability and earn respect as an independent care professional. 7. Ask questions. You will have time during your in-service training to ask questions and get answers. It is your right to do so. Remember, not knowing is not an excuse, and you do not want to be in a situation where there will be no-one to ask. This is not to say that you will know everything, but a least you are giving yourself a head start and a good solid foundation by knowing what you can. So don't be afraid to ask. Also, know who your resources are, for questions that you may have on the shift that you will be working.

8. Find a mentor with whom you can relate. Try to find someone not only on the shift during training, but also on the shift that you will be working. It is nice to find someone who has the experience and understanding as well as someone that you can get along. There might be a time that you will want to call them in the middle of the night and vent your concerns, or just to have them give you positive input in your performance. Mentors are essential to the growth of a new nurse.

9. Lastly, Know, Know and Know, what your State Nurse Practice Act states. This Act, is your guideline for most all that you do as a Registered Nurse. Know it well.

Hopefully these tips will help to ease the reality shock that you will face during your transition from student nurse to full time graduate nurse. Remember, you can't do it all. While Rooney's teammate Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov continued to lead the list of goal scorers in the Premier League, Man City's Carlos Tevez, who is the nearest to him, just two goals adrift with 12 to his name, missed three goals, for the asking, against Blackpool.

Premier League match time dawns at the Reebok Stadium as Bolton get set to host Everton on Monday, February 14, in match week 27.

This is the second of a two-leg contest between the sides, this season, with the first leg, hosted at Goodison Park by Everton on November 10, ending in a 1-1 stalemate. But for Jermaine Beckford's last minute equaliser for Everton, Bolton should have banked full points on the back of Klasinic's 79th minute goal.

Everton fans would have faulted Moyes for questionable tactics on the day. Billy Idol and Saha were misfits against a physical Bolton, as was Cahill. Fellaini who had a good game in the back-line got red-carded after a foul on Robinson. There was perhaps a case for starting Coleman instead of Fellaini. Rodwell is another promising player who merits a few starts.On the whole, while Everton had the better possession, Bolton created the better opportunities. Jagielka and Arteta had a mediocre game. Arteta in particular took some poor corners, and Everton would be better served in that department by Baines. Bilyaletdinov was another player who had not capitalised on the many starts given to him.

Zat Knight was fortunate to go unpunished after elbowing Beckford in Bolton's area. From Bolton's point of view, Everton's equaliser resulted from a sequence following a defensive lapse when Lee Chung-yong lost the ball to Baines. Everton's back-line was sorely tested by Kevin Davies and Elmander. Only Howard's pulling off a brilliant save kept Stuart Holden from scoring. Matt Taylor had an opportunity from a corner and he headed the ball over.

Head to head, Everton lead Bolton 11-5 in their last 20 league games with 4 matches drawn.

Of their last 10 games, Bolton have won 3, lost 6, and drawn 1. Everton have won 3 of their last 10, while drawing 5, and losing 2. In 13 home matches this season, Bolton have registered 6 wins, 5 draws and 2 losses; of 13 games on the road, Everton have won 2, lost 7 and draw the remaining 4.

In match week 26, Everton beat Blackpool 5-3 at home, while Bolton lost 2-1 away at Tottenham.

On current form, I would back Everton to win at least a point from the game.

Bolton's starting eleven against Tottenham comprised: Jaaskelainen, Ricketts, Cahill, Knight, Robinson, Elmander, Davies, Holden, Taylor, Davies and Sturridge. Lee, Muamba and Petrov were used as substitutes.

As a self-employed nurse Julie created a job for herself. However, the business is dependent on Julie being there and providing service. During times when Julie isn't working there is no revenue being generated. She is working in the business and needs to set money aside so that when she retires she will have an income.

As a nurse entrepreneur Nancy has created a system that will sustain her even when she no longer chooses to work. Nancy business is able to continue to function even when she is not present. She has revenue being generated when she in not directly working in or on the business. When Nancy decides she no longer wants to work she will be able to sell her business or pass it on and it will continue to generate revenue without her being there.

The examples above show you the difference between being a self-employed nurse and a nurse entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs build an automated system that will run without the owner being there. They have created something of demonstrable value that can be sold. Instead of creating a self-employment job for yourself think about how you can create a self-sustaining business.

Dating: Do You Know When to Stop Dating Someone?

If you date men or women long past the point when you are still exploring whether or not s/he is your ideal match, take heart! You are in the vast majority of people around the world. This phenomenon is not regional, generational, or related to education, or socioeconomic circumstances.

Being willing or able to recognize that someone is a good match or not a good match for you, and stop dating him or her, seems to be a universal dilemma.

Let's review a few Dating Basics:

· Dating is a process and you are dating to find your ideal match.

· Recognizing that the men or women you are dating are not a match for you is the point of the dating process.

· It is highly likely that you will date a number of people who will not be your ideal match and that many of the people you are dating will recognize that you are not their ideal match.

· Ending the dating process is the only next logical step to take if we agree that the point of dating is to find our ideal mate.

Let me tell you a story that makes this much more complex than a philosophical question:

I have a young colleague who has been dating a woman for a number of weeks. They enjoy each other's company very much. They share common interests and have a good time together.

He called me recently to tell me he was very sad. He had come to recognize that there was no future w/ this special lady. They are both professionals, mature and very clear about who they are and what they need and want in a partner. My young friend is crystal clear that he wants children. His special lady loves being an aunt to 5 nieces and nephews and has absolutely no interest in having children of her own. It is important to him that his life partner be as passionate and enthusiastic as he is about family and co-parenting (he holds a very high value for family/children).

This is an unsolvable problem. My young friend is correct. He must end the dating relationship. However, he and his lady friend might be able to change the nature of their relationship.

· First he must tell her very directly that they are not a match and why and that he isn't going to date her anymore. Then he has some choices.

· He can say goodbye and never see her again; Or

· He can tell her that he enjoys her company and would like to continue doing some of the fun things they do together.

· He must tell her directly that he will be actively dating other women.

· If they are sexual he will have to let her know that their "new" friendship-relationship will be platonic.

The ball is now in her court. She really likes him and from everything he says, she probably thinks he is a pretty close match.

· Is she going to continue having fun being with him in this new relationship structure?

· Is she willing and able to continue seeing him knowing that he is not going to date her anymore, and he is going to actively date other women?

· What will she do with her feelings of attraction? Feelings of affection?

· Will she use this as an opportunity to continue seeing him and try to change his mind (trample all over his values and boundaries)?

· Will she try to include children in her life/relationship plan (collapse into herself and abandon her values and boundaries)?

I hope you can begin to see that changing the nature of a relationship, staying friends with someone with whom you've been emotionally involved, can be tricky. It can be done if both people have a commitment to honor their values and requirements, the courage to tell themselves and the other person the truth, and the willingness to stay engaged in the process!

Clarify your values, needs, beliefs and the vision you hold for you life. Appreciate everyone who comes into your life and weave the threads of the connection you had with them into the rich fabric of your life.

Learn to say goodbye so you can use your physical and emotional energy to attract the man or the woman who will make your heart sing every day for the rest of your life.

Therapeutic Communication in the Nursing Profession

Nursing is a caring profession. It is also a profession that is more and more evidenced based in practice. In as much as the scientific aspects of nursing is increasing due to the complex technological advancement of medicine and the machinery that is used at the patients bedside, the fact remains that the nurse is the first person that the client usually comes in contact with in any emergency or hospital setting.

Having said this, the term, "caring" is an essential emotion that all nurses, for that matter, all individuals in the health profession must possess. With caring comes the trained ability of the nurse to facilitate therapeutic communication. One might ask, what is therapeutic communication? To better answer this question, the term communication should first be defined.

Communication can be defined as "The Process of transmitting messages and interpreting meaning." (Wilson and others, 1995) With therapeutic communication, the sender, or nurse seeks to illicit a response from the receiver, the patient that is beneficial to the patients mental and physical health. Just as stress has been proven to adversely affect the health of individuals, the therapeutic approach to communication can actually help. In any given situation everyone uses communication.

Everyone has seen the individual that looks like they are either angry, stressed, feeling ill or maybe sad. These emotions are communicated to others not always by words, but by gestures and facial expressions. A nurse must always be aware of these expressions in clients, for these expressions may be the only way that the nurse can tell if there is something else going on that needs their attention. The term given to this type of non-verbal communication is called, meta-communication. In meta-communication, the client may look at their amputated stump and say that it doesn't really look that bad, while at the same time tears are rolling down from their eyes.

In a case such as this the nurse should stay and further explore how the person actually feels. There are many factors associated with the healing and comforting aspects of therapeutic communication. Circumstances, surroundings, and timing all play a role in the effect of therapeutic communication. If a client is being rushed down for an emergency surgery there might not be time for a bedside conversation, but the holding of a hand could convey much more than words to the client at such a moment.

Ideally, for therapeutic communication to be effective the nurse must be aware of how they appear to the client. If a nurse appears rushed, for example, they are speaking quickly, their countenance looks harried, and they are breathing heavily, their eyes not on the client but perhaps on an intravenous bag on the client in the next bed. In a case like this, there is nothing that this nurse could say to the client in a therapeutic manner that the client would believe. The helping relationship has not been established and therefore therapeutic communication cannot be facilitated. Some of the emotions associated with therapeutic communication include but are not limited to the following: Professionalism, Confidentiality, Courtesy, Trust, Availability, Empathy, and Sympathy. All of these emotions go into the client nurse relationship, which must be established by the nurse as soon as possible upon first meeting the client. To begin to establish this nurse client relationship, the nurse must assess the overall message that the client is communicating to the nurse, such as fear, pain, sadness, anxiety or apathy. The nurse should be trained in keying into the message that the client is sending. Only then can the nurse determine the best therapeutic approach. Anyone that has to be thrust in to a hospital or emergency room environment has level of anxiety.

This level can go up considerably when the client feels that they have been abandoned or that there is no one there that really cares about how they feel. When a client is the recipient of therapeutic communication from a caring individual, a level of trust is achieved and more than, that the clients entire countenance can change for the better. Their blood pressure, respirations and levels of stress can simultaneously decrease. When this takes place, the management of pain, if any is involved, can be resolved more quickly.
