Premier League Preview: West Brom Vs Arsenal

Premier League match time will be celebrated at The Hawthorns in match week 30, on March 19, 2011, when West Brom host Arsenal in the second game of a two-legged encounter.

The first match, hosted by Arsenal at the Emirates, on September 25, 2010, went 3-2 in the visitors' favour. It was off-colour performance by the Gunners who appear to have established a tradition of not taking advantage whenever the team above them on the table loses. Arsenal dominated possession on the day but that did not deter Albion who were resolute and defended well. Di Matteo's wards matched Wenger's men in midfield, and were positive going forward and forced Arsenal to back-pedal when they did so.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE

For Arsenal, Almunia did well in the first half, especially in respect of the saved penalty but was erratic after the interval, especially the second goal for West Brom that resulted from the goalkeeper's error. Gunners' defence was ramshackle and that should be the most worrying aspect of Arsenal's game for Wenger, as the season wears.

After a goalless first half featuring a missed penalty by Albion, the first 25 minutes of the second half saw the visitors go 3-0 up. Odemwingie put them ahead on 50 minutes, and 2 minutes later Jara made it 2-0. And when Thomas scored 13 minutes after the hour, the match appeared to be over for Arsenal. But Nasri didn't think so and reduced the margin on 75 minutes. After that West Brom spent a nerve racking 15 minutes, and the late surge by Arsenal paid off eventually when Nasri scored in his second in injury time. In the end, West Brom managed to hang on, and took away 3 full points.

Head to head, in 9 league games between the sides, arsenal have established a 6-2 advantage over West Brom, with the remaining game drawn.

In their last 6 games, West Brom have registered 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss; Arsenal have won, drawn and lost 2 games each of their last 6. Of 14 home games, this season, Albion have won and drawn 5 each, while losing the remaining 4; Arsenal have won 7 of their 13 games on the road, while losing 2 and drawing the remaining 4.

In match week 29, West Brom beat Birmingham 3-1 away at St Andrews's, while Arsenal drew 0-0 at home with Sunderland. On current form, expect a hard-fought game with West Brom enjoying home advantage.

West Brom had the following players in their starting eleven against Birmingham: Carson, Reid, Olsson, Meite, Shorey, Brunt, Mulumbu, Scharner, Thomas, Morrison and Fortune. Jara, Tamas and Odemwingie played as substitutes.

Arsenal's starting eleven against Sunderland had the following players: Szczrsny, Sagna, Djourou, Koscielny, Clichy, Denilson, Wishere, Nasri, Diaby, Arshavin and Bendtner. Rosicky and Chamakh were used as substitutes.
