Committed Couples: Repairing Hurt Feelings and Shaken Trust

There may be occasions during your relationship when you hurt your Honey's feelings or s/he hurts your feelings. There may be those rare times that your beloved does or says something that shakes your trust or you do or say something that shakes his or hers.

jackie o sunglasses

Those times may seem like the end of your relationship. You might fear that nothing can be said or done to repair the damage. Repairing the hurt is possible if you are both willing to work it out!

JACKIE

When you are hurt do you try to hurt your partner back? Do you hold a grudge? Do you reject your partner's effort(s) to apologize and make up? Sometimes partners don't have good tools and skills and don't use their words effectively in emotionally charged situations.

While acting out against your partner may feel good in the moment, it really only serves to make the situation worse in the long run. Acting out creates more hurt feelings and makes it harder for both partners to work through the original hurt.

Here are several essential steps in the repair process:

· Acknowledge what happened

· Admit that you did or said something that you now recognize was hurtful and unkind or that has shaken your partner's trust

· Offer an apology that includes acknowledging that you said or did something that hurt his/her feelings or contributed to shaking his/her trust in you

· Ask what you can do or say to make things better

· Allow your partner time to soothe himself or herself and be open and ready to receive him or her when the time is right.

Remember, only you can make it happen!

Five of the Best Dark Comedies on Satellite TV

While the traditional happy-go-lucky sitcom approach to comedy is appealing to some audiences, recently audiences have been tuning in for darker comedies, and in record numbers. From regular television in network form to the latest premium series that have managed to revive entire networks, the dark comedy is definitely enjoying a serious moment of popularity in the world of television right now. But knowing where to start, whether you're tuning in on cable or on satellite TV, can get a little bit tricky. However, the can't-miss approach to dark comedies on television right now is to focus on the two big-hitters, Showtime and HBO, so that finding an uninterrupted and amazing approach to this fine art is more contained to a couple of channels, rather than searching in vain all over the dial.

nurse jackie season 1

Nurse Jackie - Edie Falco returns to premium television, only this time on Showtime. Taking the the helm and leading "Nurse Jackie," Falco has proven that she is a capable performer, and with writing that alternates between hilarious and gut-wrenching, this emergency-room dramedy is the best example of a black comedy on Showtime in ages.

NURSE JACKIE

Dexter - In another instance of Showtime poaching great talent from a former HBO series, this story of a serial killer who kills only other serial killers has been making waves on satellite tv since it debuted a few seasons ago. Though the plot twists and turns have involved more conventional storylines, like marriage, the show has managed to retain its grit and continues to captivate and draw in new audience members with each new season.

The United States of Tara - Another serious hit for Showtime and one of the most hotly picked up shows on satellite tv right now, "The United States of Tara" might start to suffer from that sophomore slump in its second season, but so far, things seem to be working out for this colorful cast that manages to cover practically every dramatic angle imaginable. If this formula can continue without everything getting too ridiculous, then the show should continue to draw in viewers in droves.

The Life and Times of Tim - While a cartoon might not be your immediate impression as far as dark comedies go, laughing along with cartoon middleman Tim as he tries to not put his foot in his mouth for an entire day of his mundane Manhattan life is definitely a lot more different than with other dark comedies, but is still consistently hilarious. Definitely one of the more edgy sleeper hits to debut on HBO in the past couple of years, and one that shows the potential promise for future dark comedies in cartoon form.

Weeds - While "Weeds" seriously suffered recently with going a bit too zany for most audiences and critics' taste, the show got back on track with its surprisingly evenhanded series finale. Conceived of when a serious bumper crop of dark comedies were hitting satellite tv all at once, it is the only show still running after the all-star roster of "Six Feet Under" and beyond over on HBO.

Career As a Surgical Nurse

A surgical nurse is a special type of medical professional who works in operating rooms alongside surgeons and other members of the surgical team. So what does a surgical nurse do? The professional is basically a registered nurse who is specially trained to care for patients and provide support to physicians before, during, and after surgeries. Specialized degrees are required for this job, typically a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, followed by the passage of a national licensing examination, and time spent developing the special skills to work in operating rooms.

nurse jackie

There are many career options in surgical nursing. A surgical nurse can utilize his or her specialized skills to contribute to the success of surgical teams in any facility surgeries are performed. The career involves becoming familiar with surgical patients' medical histories and preparing the operating room with all the necessary supplies, equipment, and instruments. The nurse might be responsible for any number of tasks during surgery, including monitoring vital signs and looking after the patient as their anesthetic wears off. The surgical nurse is also typically the main line of communication between the physician, members of the surgical team, and the patient's loved ones while the surgery is happening.

NURSE

The current career outlook for surgical nurses is good. The job opportunities in this field are expected to grow by as much as 23 percent over the next decade according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. A nurse must often gain experience in general care areas such as critical care or emergency room care before they can enter this specialization, though, and the passage of an additional exam is required to become a Certified Nurse for the Operating Room, or CNOR. The median salary for a surgical nurse in the U.S. is approximately ,000.

Surgical nursing jobs are not for the faint of heart. Any job in the medical field is probably a bad choice for squeamish individuals who can't stand the sight of blood, but helping the surgical team can be especially challenging. It is a rewarding career with many benefits for those up to the challenge.

Free Smoking Cessation Programs

It's easy for people to say you should quit smoking, but often you are limited by a tight financial budget, however it is a little known fact that there are a number of completely free smoking cessation programs available to anyone. There is also the habit replacement method which has proven successful for many people in their bid to give up their smoking habit. If you are genuinely ready to kick the habit, you might find that it is easier than you think and any money you spend will be a good investment. Of course your main weapon against smoking and the hold it has over you is your own willpower, and this comes free! However free smoking cessation programs can provide you with that little bit extra push you may need.

jackie o dress

There are a number of non profit organisations that offer free smoking cessation programs. One of the larger of these companies is the American Cancer Society. They offer a huge variety of online programs where you can sign up for literature on the harmful nature of smoking which contains a number of ways and means to beat the habit, and best of all the guides they send you are free and it costs you nothing to sign up and be a member.

JACKIE

Unsurprisingly, the American Cancer Society has done much research on the negative effects of smoking. This means that the guides they send you can prove to be very motivating, especially if you are already starting to feel the negative effects of smoking on your own health. They will also provide you with stop smoking advice as well as offering you the chance to view non smoking videos to help you in your bid to be a non smoker. Another way of helping you is the sponsorship they give to smoking cessation support groups and twenty-four hours stop smoking hotlines. These services can deliver what you need to finally put an end to your smoking habit.

There are a number of other charity organisations that offer you a variety of free smoking cessation programs. As with the American Cancer Society, they sponsor support groups and have number of hotlines manned by trained counsellors who are free to call and can give you and support when you feel that your strength against being a non smoker is wavering. Many of these also offer tips online to help stop smoking, and they suggest that you stop smoking using affordable tools that help you on your journey to better health.

As with anything that requires giving something up, there are a number of free smoking cessation methods you can use to help reduce your cigarette cravings. For example, toothpicks can be an excellent replacement for cigarettes. By chewing one of these every time you feel a craving of a cigarette you are keeping your mouth and hands occupied, which means you are less likely to pick up a cigarette. Although this is not an alternative to expensive nicotine replacement products to stop smoking it can be a useful way to help your fight against smoking on a budget.

jackie warner book

Her best friend calls her anorexic and her boyfriend is angry because she doesn't eat. Lisabeth is upset and at risk for loosing them both. JACKIE

With the sudden appearance of a mystery horse and a visit by death, Lisabeth is given a choice to either finish what she started with the pills or take on the responsibilities of Famine. With that, she must learn to find balance with her new job and for herself, all the while feeling as though it were all a dream.

After viewing life through the eyes of Famine in a third world country and what it means to be truly hungry, Lisabeth discovers its power and that she can help take away the pain and agony of hunger. She begins to feel confident and accepts that she is anorexic and needs help. Admitting to her father all the things she is feeling she welcomes the help of a clinic and arrives home after 49 days. Lisabeth chose to live and returns the scales to death.

Kessler does a great job of introducing readers to the character Lisabeth. Readers can relate to and understand the thought process of someone with an eating disorder and how it could be overcome with the help of family and friends. Kessler was not real clear on the role of the four horseman and how they relate to anorexia. For a young adult reader more clarification would have been nice.

Escape (A Short Play in One Act, and Two Scenes) (Act One, Scene One)

Overview (Or general idea behind the story)

nurse jackie season one

The story "Escape" is much like the Author's other works, biographical in many respects; it presents a version of his own life. In this case, an imaginative speculation about what might have taken place prior to his leaving Minnesota to go to San Francisco and what might have happened otherwise, had he not.

NURSE JACKIE

That is, had he not chosen to go to San Francisco, in 1968, as indicated in his previous book "Romancing San Francisco"? Moreover, had he not gone to Vietnam, as indicated in his book, "Where the Birds Don't Sing." In addition, had he not went onto college receiving two Doctorate Degrees, along with two undergraduate degrees? And seven Poet Laureate Awards; traveling the world over-to fifty-six countries, and forty-six of the fifty states, in the United States. What is more, had he not worked on his self-image-had he not taken as Robert Frost the poet's idiom seriously, "The Road less Traveled," then what?

It cast light on the significance for him on his neighborhood (which the police call 'Donkeyland'), whose influence on his early life is obvious. He himself is perhaps was his own worse-if not only-protagonist. His estrangement from the world outside of the neighborhood, which consists of two neighborhood bars, a street called Cayuga, a cemetery along Jackson Street, called 'Oakland'; a dozen or two dozen friends.

This story elaborates on one single night at one of the two bars, his central theme alcoholism or escape.

Making the decision he did, he in the process sobered up, wrote three books on the subject of Alcoholism, which he would not have done, had he not escaped the neighborhood, and became an international licensed drug counselor.

It is 1968, at this point, Chick Evens had been married to Barbara for fifteen months, she is now seeking a divorce, but Chick will not give it to her, he knows if he does, he'll be drafted, and sent to Vietnam. He has a daughter named Darla, born in 1966; again authentic, but on his aesthetic, or visual theory, things could change, in that he ponders on a decision. In real life, Barbara had told Darla, his real father died, of course, this is not the real case, and she wants to marry another person.

Escape, in essence is essential theme; for those who have read much of the forty-five books the author has written, there is always truth interwoven into his dialogues, his narrations, thus, you see the author's life as it really is today of how it might not have been had he chosen a different road in life.

He has an apartment on the east side of town (York Street), which again is authentic, he is twenty-years old, his brother Mike two years older, lives on Van Buren Street, with his two kids, and wife. He is a truck driver. Chick Evens is a kind of roustabout, better put, working for Swift Meats, in South Saint Paul, and becoming a chronic drunk, he isn't at this moment in his life, anymore than a bum, as he mother once put it lightly. Perhaps more on the borderline of inspiring drinker, but he drinks almost everyday, he likes beer, smokes three packs of cigarettes a day.

He has a girlfriend named Sandy Nelson; she's sixteen years old, and a blond, tall, thin and nice looking, blue eyes, a sort of whore-or everyone's girl, to get to the point. On the other hand, he had Sue Benton, sixteen years old, black hair girl dark eyes, very pretty, who wanted to be his exclusive girlfriend-so he was not lacking in female companionship, but she would not put out for him. Consequently, falling to the wayside; these girls will not show up in the Act, but it might be worthwhile knowing why he is not running after any girls during the Act. He also has a fake identification, and if questioned, he looks the legal age for drinking.

Therefore, now you know enough of the background of the story, to get into the story.

The tone to the story is haughty, if not portentous, in that it is slated on Chick's self-importance. Perhaps you will get to know the author more, or better, knowing the most influential part of his youthful life, which drove him to escape the world he was in, was his neighborhood, and his dreams-although not fully developed yet. Escape is the objective, the author is trying to tell you, not everybody is successful in escaping, and how easy one may think it is, isn't really so easy, that is if you don't believe in it fully, and how one thing leads to another.

Had he not gone to San Francisco, and signed the divorce papers, he would not have gone to Vietnam, Germany, Italy, thus, not have written "A Romance in Augsburg," or the 850-short stories, and 3200-poems and 1400 articles to date, along with forty-five books, or this One Act Play.

Escape: the Story

(Act One, Scene One)

Jackie S. and Nancy E. come in by the front door of the Mt. Airy Bar, on Jackson and Sycamore Streets, Jackie being twenty-years old. When she was fifteen, she and Chick Evens had a thing going, nothing serious, a teenager's lighthearted affair you might say. Nancy is going with one of the Lund boys by the name of Sammy. The bartender is Jose Garcia, Mexican, a strongly build forty-five year old man, robust.

Jackie slender, from the Native American Race, is wearing a well made and trimmed navy blue blouse, and jeans, she's slim and cute; as for Nancy, more plain than cute, brown hair, is holding a large handbag. They sit at the corner of the bar, towards the front door; it is 7:00 p.m.

By the jukebox and in a booth near the bathrooms are Jerry Hino, and his brother Jim, and Jerry's second wife, Betty. A year prior, when Jerry had gotten mad at Betty, he and Chick Evens took a trip to Omaha, Nebraska, Jerry to get away from her, and that in itself is another story.

Jerry is perhaps the same size in height as Chick, but a 100-pounds heaver, and fifteen years his senior. Jim is perhaps twenty-five, more or less, about the same height as Evens, and build. They are drinking beer and smoking, kind of to themselves. Don Gulf, has come in from the bar across the street and is talking to Jerry, they are friends, about the same age, he is married to Jackie's sister, one of the several sisters of Jackie, he is the biggest drunk in the neighborhood. Once he tried to pick a fight with Chick, thinking he was screwing his wife, when it was John L., (John L., who went with Evens to California; Long Beech and then L.A. and came back to marry his long time girlfriend, Karen) Larry L's cousin.

Jackie: the boys are sitting on the church steps drinking as usual. I suppose Doug expects me to be there, but he can wait. They didn't see us anyhow.

Nancy E: No, they didn't, I saw Sammy there and Chick, he wasn't there as usual, you should go back with him, you always give him the eye, but end up with someone different, he treats you better than Doug.

Jose: What you girls having?

Jackie: tap beer, any kind.

Jackie: (Points to the clock.) I heard Chick was going to San Francisco; learn more of that Karate stuff, he's been talking about that for the last year now, he's still living on East Side of town, goes to that gym he calls a dojo.

Nancy E: (Sitting on the stool next to Jackie, trying to get comfortable.) He'll never escape this neighborhood, no one does.

Jackie: He might, he's different. I heard Sammy asked you to marry him, is that true?

Nancy E: O, yes. (She is hesitant, coughs, then laughs, trying to put it off, rather nervously.) I'm trying to put it off until I finish nursing school, I want to be an LPN; that's in two years, but he doesn't want to wait, he says he'll pay for it, he makes good money like, Chick's brother, Mike.

Jackie: (Sympathetically.) Rather nice, I think he means it, he's nuts about you.

Jose: Look outside, it looks like rain. (Moving towards the window, leaving the horseshoe shaped bar.)

Jackie: Is Mr. Carbonell working tonight? (Who is the owner of the bar, and kind of a snob?)

Jose: He always works the nights. (He points to the window it is raining hard now.) He's in the back room getting ready, with Doris, the waitress.

Jackie: Yea, we all know what he's doing with Doris, both married, and whooping it up.

Jose: Shiii, be quiet, he'll hear you.

Jackie: we all know he stays with her in the back of the bar half the night after the bar closes.

Nancy E: It shouldn't be long now; the boys will be in here, or across the street at Bram's soon, I saw Big Ace's brother in there, Kenny, you know the skinny one Chick went with to Seattle; he's back with his wife again.

Mr. Carbonell comes out of the backroom up to the bar front area of the bar, towards Jose, holding papers, he advances towards Jose.

Carbonell: I'll be a while girls, I got to count the money, and make a transfer, so if you want a drink, order one now.

Allen J: I'll take a Bud before your start your business. (He shouts, he's on the other side of the bar by himself, he's been drinking nearly as much as Chick Evens lately, also the same age as Chick, they are both buddies, Chick used to like his sister, Italian stock, but she's too young, fourteen. Allen is a nice looking fellow, black hair, his father owns a little business on Cayuga Street, polishing, and putting plated chrome on bumpers and other parts of chrome on cars and motorcycles, Evens worked for his father for a season.)

Carbonell: get him a beer Jose, I'll open the register.

Doug, Reno (or Steve L. the fat man of the neighborhood, who married Judy, a silent a quite woman) Mike E., Larry L., and Jennie, Jacky's sister, Nancy D. and her boyfriend, David, along with Big Ace, and his sister Kathy-whom Chick used to date right after he dated Jackie S. And Sid M., a friend who often stopped at Chick's high school to pick him up before he enter the door, so they could get drunk (Jerry S, six-foot six, 240 pounds, and as dumb as an ox) all walk through the swinging doors of the bar.

Jose: Welcome boys, you will have to wait a few minutes while Mr. Carbonell clears the register. Hope you don't mind.

Allen: (Rises up, waves his hand, as if to say hello, he is not really one of the boys, but part of the neighborhood, and not much of a troublemaker.)

Mike E: You see my brother. (Looking at Allen)?

Allen: he could be across the street at Bram's.

Mike E: I doubt it, he does not like the place. Jackie, you see him.

Jackie: No, why?

Mike E: (looks at Jose)

Jose: Do not disturb me, we are counting, he was here an hour ago, left.

Doug: (He takes a hand full of change out of his pocket, hands it to Jackie.) Order me a beer, and the rest of the guys something, I got to go take a piss. (On the way to the can, he slips a quarter into the jukebox, plays Elvis' "It's Now or Never," and Roger Miller's "King of the Road," and something by Johnny Cash. Bill K and his wife Judy walk into the bar at the sometime; Doug plays his last song, and heads on into the bathroom, waving his hands, a gesture of hello, at Jerry and Bill just before he opens the bathroom door.)

Mike E. You see my brother around, Bill?

Bill K: We were practicing karate earlier this afternoon in my backyard, I can't say I have seen him since; he'll be around though, he always is, why?

Mike E: He got some paper from the courthouse sent to my place, I think it's his divorce papers from Barb, you know, his ex-wife.

Jack T: (One of Chick's friends, comes through the door, hears what Mike said.) Divorce papers haw, he better not sign them he'll be heading for Vietnam, I got my draft notice a week ago, I got to be going in three weeks. The bastards got me. Matter of fact, you see my brother Tom? (Tom is married to one of Jackie's sisters, Trudy.)

Mike E: No. (All the other boys and the two girls, Jackie and Nancy, shake their heads no, but Allen, he's not paying attention.)

Jack T: how about you goofball (Looking at Allen; Allen looks up surprised, Jack is a joker, and when drunk a loose cannon like his brother.) I'm just kidding, but how long you've been here?

Allen: I've been here a few hours, he never came in when I was here.

Doug: A letter haw?

Jackie: No shit, I bet he's going to end up in Vietnam.

Mr. Carbonell: Okay boys, what'll you have?

Doug: (Picking up his change.) Tap beer for everyone.

Allen: I don't like tap beer!

Doug: Forget the big shot over there, tap beer isn't good enough for him, asshole. (Allen just smiles, looks at Doug, he is a brawler.)

Carbonell hands each of his customers, which are really the neighborhood gang, all tap beer but Allen. The newspaper is on the bar, Big Ace pushes it towards Larry, and Larry the tough boxer of the neighborhood, tosses it in the basket behind the bar, knowing nobody in the bar reads anything, in particular, the neighborhood.

Carbonell: Please don't do that Larry, I read the paper and Doris does after work.

Larry L. Horseshit, we all know what you do with Doris after hours. ((Everyone starts laughing, but Jose just keeps to his self and Carbonell leaves well enough alone.)(Bill and his wife Judy, are in one of the side booths, Doris brings them each a tap beer. She heard what Larry said, just produces a grim face. Jerry Hino is calling Doris over to place an order, there is a lot o noise, and Doris is hard of hearing, matter of fact year after year her hearing gets worse so it seems, one might think it's from stress, with Mr. Carbonell...but who's to say.))

Chick E: (Walks into the bar.)

Mike E: I had begun to think you'd never come in; haven't seen you in a week.

Chick E: I've thought of that also, been thinking of going to San Francisco soon.

Mike E: You mean to see that karate expert from Japan?

Chick E: Yup!

Mike E: Still at the stockyards with ma?

Chick E: Yes, I see her almost everyday there, she gives me a ride now and then, wakes me up, honks the horn until I get up, drives me crazy.

Mike E: Well anyhow, here, why do you have your paperwork sent to my house? (Chick takes the envelope, opens it up.)

Chick E: I never had it sent to your apartment; Barb must have, knowing I never seem to have a place of my own too long; blame her.

Jackie: What's it say, divorce, you'll end up going to Vietnam, Jack says so?

Chick E: I thought of that, but who cares anyhow, I wouldn't mind it, be something different.

Mike E. What's it say?

Chick E: Not much, something about "Inhuman Cruelty" for god sake, what on earth does that mean, she's the one screwing everybody in town, I was at one of the east side bars a month ago, and a guy comes up to me, says '...is Barb E-her maiden name-is she your wife?' I say 'yes', and he says 'what a whore,' and I told him, 'why you telling me what I already know, it's your problem if you don't like her, why tell me?' and he just looks at me like a dumb fool.

Jackie: You must have known it before. (He does not answer.) Didn't you?

Chick E: No, I didn't know anything. ((Jackie looks at him with a sad, and somewhat mystified face.)(Chick looks back at Jackie, knowing Doug beats the shit out of her, and she takes it, smiles slightly.))

Mike E and Jack T: What you going to do?

Chick E: It's just paperwork, they can't draft me until I go to court, or don't go to court and let them do what they want to, and maybe the war will be over by then: isn't that the case, isn't it, or unless I sign it, and agree to it...something like that.

Jack T: Not quite, you don't know what she's thinking.

Chick E: Barb wants me to sign paperwork allowing someone else in the future to adopt my daughter, you know my daughter, Darla, if I sign it, and she'll not go for a divorce I bet.

Laura M: (John St. Clair's girlfriend had walked into the bar, John being the only brother to Jackie S., and overheard the conversation.) Go on and sign the damn paperwork, or you'll never go to San Francisco, or in the Army, and end up staying here getting drunk everyday like you do, and dying early. ((Everyone looks at Laura; she is seventeen years old, Indian, very pretty, tall, and pregnant with John's first child.)(She likes Chick, feels he has potential; she has read some of his early poetry.))

John S: (John leans forward, resting his elbows on the bar, he's eighteen, his hands joined together) She makes sense, but for us guys, we like it here (looking at Laura).

Laura M: (Shyly, as not to embarrass John.) Yes, we like it here, because that is all we see in our minds. And it is my mind that attracts me to you John, and I love you, so I stay (she's now receiving hesitating glances from John and everyone). Why do you think I come here John, because of you, but Chick has nobody, he can go and do and see whatever he wants? I don't even see why he's here.

John S: Why, we've known each other since childhood. We have to give our child a name. It's you and I, it always has been (John is confused, he's not as bright as Laura, he's gulping down a beer) it's not so bad here, is it?

Laura M: No. Otherwise I'd not be able to see you, and that I'd not be able to live with.

John S: Why then do you say all that.

Laura M: (Suddenly confused.) I had better go, I'm tired, and I don't want to drink too much, the baby. (She looks at Chick for a moment, then turns quickly and leaves the bar. John shakes his head.)

Jackie S. What now? (She says to her brother, John S.) What now! (She says to Chick Evens.)

Chick E: I can't say I want to go to San Francisco (With a tinge of intensity.) maybe she's right, if I don't sign those papers things will never work out. (Something in his soul, seems to be fighting him, perhaps pride, perhaps ridicule, perhaps drinking too much, or not having money to drink as much as he'd like to if he goes, if he takes on this new adventure of going to San Francisco, contrary to signing the paper, and unknowing what to expect.)

Roger L. comes into the bar, the same age as Doug, twenty-four, he works as a bartender on Rice Street at the Horseshoe Bar, also raised in the neighborhood. He is married to what is considered an outsider, someone not from the neighborhood, he joins Doug and Larry, leans on the bar. Roger used to live with his father and mother and brother Ron, across the streets from the Evens', on Cayuga Street, a few years back. (Ron L., used to hang around the boys he's now finishing up at a trade school, to be a Sheet Metal Worker-he seldom if ever comes around the bar anymore, he if anybody, escaped the bar scene, at least the neighborhood bar.)

Larry L., now puts in two quarters, five songs, old Elvis songs, "Hound Dog," and a few others, people are dancing, Judy and Bill.

Roger L: Give me a bottle of Hamm's beer!

Bill K: (Talks softly to Chick E, he is standing by Bill's booth) Courage, it takes courage to leave the neighborhood. I went to Vietnam, '65, as you know, it's no picnic, but you're tough, go to San Francisco, and Vietnam like Laura says, get out of here. You are never lonely anyhow, you like being by yourself, I can see that. (Chick is thinking, leans hard against the soft padding of the booth, averting Bill's face; Judy raises, walks to the bathroom, allowing them to talk; Chick looks around for a moment. Crosses the bar, sits down by his brother.)

Mike E: You going to sign the paperwork?

Chick: I don't even know. (He was kind of feeling: why so much interest in me? Was it he that was going to escape and they wanted to know; that they might lose something in their life? Did this for a moment separate him from them? He is kind of feeling, the third person. Did he have a secret held back from them that signing this paper was his answer either way? He looked about, people smiled maliciously. How would it look, life look forty years from now? He points towards the jukebox.) What do you want to hear?

Mike E: Jack Scott or Brenda Lee (He says with some reserve.)

Big Ace, to Larry: (He's clapping his hands, singing 'Twenty four black birds backed in a pie...' over and over, he can't remember the rest of the words. Big Ace has been buying booze for the boys since Chick was thirteen years old, when he had his first drink, and drunk.) I always knew he would go someday!

Chick knew everything would change after he signed the paper went to San Francisco. His life, his mind- musing now; in a very just thinking way about it brought him near to death, a coldness little by little filling his body. It made him see things differently. If he stayed in the neighborhood, it was finding a job, a woman to sleep with, a bottle of booze, a place to sleep, like the one he had now for -dollars a week, just a room with a bed. Half closing his eyes thinking, he opened up the envelope, pulled out the piece of paper, a pale reflection on his face, not saying a word. With dejected energy-he reread the letter, looked at his brother...

Chick E: It all can't be that tragic (whatever it was, something new was gathering in Chick's brain, perhaps he knew what he felt he always knew, had to do, that was the reason he did what he did, was going to do, and signed the paper). O, I'll probably live through Vietnam, it's all an adventure anyhow, die here on the streets, in the bar, or some other place, what is the difference. (Thus, he had signed the paper in front of his brother, calmly and bitterly, and ordered another beer.)

Acupuncture For Weight Loss - Can it Really Help Me Lose Weight?

A National Health Review survey done in 2002 stated that 8.2 million Americans actually seeked acupuncture treatments.

jackie robinson jersey

But what is acupuncture? And will it help me to lose weight?

JACKIE

What is it?

Acupuncture is a technique where fine, filliform needles are manipulated and inserted into specific points on your body to relieve pain, treat allergies or for general therapeutic purposes.

Although widely used in Korea & Japan, China is the authority on this subject. According to Chinese medical theory, these acupuncture points are found on meridians along which your vital energy, or qi, flows.

So how does it work?

If you decide to use acupuncture to lose weight, please check with your doctor first and find a reputable, certified acupuncturist.

Be honest with him or her and give details about things like your eating habits, any digestive problems you may have and your appetite in general.

The acupuncturist will then check your pulse and understand the general state of your body's energy or qi.

As can be seen from this simple exercise, acupuncture treatment is actually catered to the needs of the individual patient. After this evaluation, the acupuncturist will then insert the needles at certain pre-chosen points on your body.

This is done to unblock the meridians in your body as when these meridians are blocked, your qi does not flow freely and will usually result in poor health.

These points are chosen to give you an overall feeling of well being with the objective of increasing the circulation of blood in your body as well as your qi. This stimulates your metabolic rate and calms your nervous system.

Some of these predetermined points will include your mouth, stomach, lungs, spleen, kidney and thyroid.

Usually, treatments are performed once or twice a week for about 8 to 12 weeks, or until you reach your desired target weight.

Is this backed by research?

In 2003, a study that was published by the Journal Of Medical Acupuncture found that participants who received acupuncture actually lost 3 times more weight than the control group.

Also, another study conducted in 1998 by the University of Adelaide in Australia showed that participants using acupuncture demonstrated appetite suppression more than the control group.

So should I just use acupuncture to lose weight then?

Well, even though the above studies have shown that participants have lost more weight using acupuncture, no real conclusions can be derived on its success when used as a single weight loss method. This is because, other than using acupuncture, most of these participants in the studies were also using other traditional methods of weight loss at the same time, for example, dieting and exercise.

Studies that were done using acupuncture as a single method of weight loss involved only a handful of subjects and they were followed only for a few acupuncture sessions and only for another few weeks thereafter.

Therefore, no solid or conclusive evidence can be made in this case.

Conclusion

Losing weight is not an easy task. Even though acupuncture may have given a probable psychological boost to the participants in the above mentioned studies, it is not a miracle treatment where fat will just melt off your body after a few sessions.

The key to losing weight safely, naturally and permanently has always been proven consistently to be a solid & nutritious eating plan in combination with a schedule of high intensity exercises.

Premier League Preview 2011

Sporting Index traders have installed Manchester United as favourites in their Premier League points spread market. Sir Alex Ferguson's side have a spread of 80-81.5 and buyers might be interested to learn that they finished on 80 points in 2010/11. The Red Devils have been busy in the transfer window and spread bettors will be keeping an eye on David De Gea's start in goal.

sons of anarchy season 3 premiere

Chelsea are second favourites and are available at 78-79.5 after they picked up 71 points last year. The Blues' spread supporters will have been rocked by the news of Michael Essien's knee injury which will rule the midfielder out for six months. Elsewhere, Arsenal have faced ongoing transfer speculation surrounding Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabergas with buyers of Arsenal's points spread at 72.5 waiting to see the outcome before having a bet. New signing Gervinho grabbed a brace on his first outing for the club and that will have given spread sellers of their points at 71 something to ponder.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE

Any spread buyer of Liverpool's points at 69-70.5 will be hoping for a better start than last year under Roy Hodgson. The Reds improved dramatically when Kenny Dalglish took over as manager and spread buyers will be looking for the side to continue in a similar fashion. Dalglish has added the services of Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson and that may cause sellers of the club's points to worry a little.

After Manchester City claimed the final Champions League place, spread buyers of their points at 76 will be expecting Roberto Mancini's side to push on again this year. Carlos Tevez, who finished as joint-top scorer in the league, is intent on leaving the club and that'll be well-received by those looking to sell their points at 74.5.

Tottenham secured a Europa League spot after finishing four points above Liverpool and anyone buying Spurs' points spread at 61.5-63 will be desperate for the club to hold onto Luka Modric. The Croatian has become an invaluable asset and sellers of their points spread would be delighted to see the midfielder leave White Hart Lane.

David Moyes' outfit finished only four points behind their City rivals and outside of Europe, but buyers of their points spread at 53.5-55 will be expecting that not having to balance both next season will be of benefit. Money is once again tight at Goodison Park and given that there have not been any significant signings, spread sellers of their points at 53.5 will argue that the campaign is going to be a tough one for such a small squad.

At the other end of the table the three newly-promoted sides will be the hot-topic. West Ham finished bottom with 33 points in the previous campaign and spread punters selling any of the newly-promoted side's points totals will be hoping for a similar sum come the end of the May.

The Amazing And Alluring Field Of The Forensic Nurse

Forensic nursing is a Course that includes both the person's understanding of forensic sciences and nursing. Their main authority is to collect evidence from the survivors or suspects of violent crimes to aid in the processing of a crime case prior to the handing out of lawfulness.

nurse jackie

Due the fact that crimes are constantly happening, even in the absence of the public, registered nurses who have forensic knowledge are in high demand. For instance, there are sexual assault nurse examiner, forensic gerontology specialist, forensic nurse investigator and many more to professionally handle criminality cases.

NURSE JACKIE

Feasibly, the most distinctive issue that takes forensic nurse is sexual assault, coming before Medical-legal consulting, forensic psychiatric nursing, and death investigation. Usually the nurse will take pictures and gather evidence if there is rape or sexual assault cases.

The data accumulated will be imperative into determining the possible suspect. it's also the burden of the nurse to cross referencing the DNA sample into the database to see if the criminal has had bad records. if the victim actually knows the perpetrator then taking the person into custody would be more straight forward as they can couple the DNA with the fragment received from the suspect.

For the cases involving death, forensic nursing will have the duty of assisting the pathologists in the scene of the crime. they'll collaborate to determine the cause of death of the deceased, more distinctly the coroner would. So basically the nurse has the duty of directing psychiatric interpretation of a convict or suspect. Their evaluations will be testimony to judge if a culprit is justified for a trial. Even inmates who've been released and pardoned from jail can be subjected to comparative tests in order for them to seek jobs.

To get registered for a forensic nursing course, you should first comprehend the content of forensic study. The curriculum emphasizes forensic mental health, criminal justice system, perpetrator theory, interpersonal violence and victimology. Besides, learners will need to practice under the preceptor of a forensic doctor or professional nurse. From the curriculum, you can advance your study into your master's degree or go into education.

Why Do We Have Music

Why we have music is much more difficult to explain than how and why we use music. Music is based on a lot of things that we refer to in life, if you were asked the question, am I a lot happier when music is being played when I am working? Like mine, your answer to that would probably be yes, especially if it is music that you can sing along to that you know or associate with happy times.

nurse jackie

From early records and before that from archeological findings man has made some form of music, initially, by banging sticks together to form simple rhythms. For mankind music seems to be an essential part of life.

NURSE JACKIE

Music is used for a wide range of modern-day activities such as parties, television commercials, funerals, sports, etc. Can you imagine a television commercial without music in the background? There would be nothing to emphasize the essential elements of the commercial or to attract you to watch it initially. It is not a fault with the broadcasting that the music for adverts is louder than the program you were watching. The chances are you wouldn't even look at the commercial if there wasn't music in it. It's the music and the way it is played that attracts you, because that way you begin to associate that advert or whatever is on the television at that time, with it, so you get to recognize the advert or program by its theme music.

Music has been used for military means throughout history to stir the troops into the right mood for battle and to terrify the enemy. Then later it is used to mourn the dead and to celebrate victories.

Can you imagine attending a wedding without music being played? The music is used to set the tone of the proceedings. In the wedding proceedings, first comes the bright cheerful music announcing the arrival of the bride. Followed by the dignified music of the bride with her entourage proceeding down the aisle, then the solemn music as the ceremony proceeds and the register is signed followed by the joyful music as the bride and groom leave the church for their new happy life. Happy music is used to signify the happy life to follow.

To continue with the wedding analogy, consider the brides walk down the aisle without music being played. (I would want to do the quick step to get to my groom). The music sets the pace and provides dignity to the procession. The guests know, which points the proceedings have reached by listening to the music. There is no need for a commentary or notices. The music tells the story. Why we have music is hard to quantify. How we use music and why we use music in the way that we do is much easier to explain. Music permeates life. From early church music, through battle music to entertainment, music is constantly heard and used as part of proceedings.

Numerous Reasons to Become a Nurse

Nursing is a field that has always been known for job security. Even in tough economic times, nursing shortages persist. Hospitals may reduce the number of nurses to save money, but that reduction in no way reflects the need for well qualified nurses who can provide exceptional patient care. A registered nurse performs patient care duties under the direction of a physician. The nurse carries out a physician's orders regarding medication administration and patient care. A nurse must be able to assess patient needs, write care plans, monitor progress and respond to emergencies in a calm and competent manner.

nursery rocking chair

There are numerous reasons to consider nursing as a career. Nurses earn better than average pay. Entry level registered nurses earn starting salaries in the neighborhood of ,000 per year. A nurse who becomes a specialist in an area such as anesthesiology or one who chooses to become a nurse practitioner can eventually earn a six figure salary. Flexibility in scheduling is another reason to consider nursing as a career. While nurses work evenings, weekends and holidays, schedules can often be adjusted to meet the nurse's needs. Some nurses prefer working shifts such as three 12 hour days which allow them to have more consecutive days off between shifts. Others may prefer working standard 8 hour shifts. Outside of the hospital and long-term care setting, nurses can work regular hours in physician's offices, mental health centers, schools and health departments.

NURSE

Becoming a registered nurse requires earning a degree or diploma in the field and taking a state licensing examination. The good news is that there are several avenues to earning nursing credentials. An individual who is interested into getting into professional nursing quickly can enroll in an associate degree program at a community college or junior college. The associate degree can be earned in two years. Associate degree nurses take courses necessary to meet the requirements for the licensing exam, but do not take a lot of electives due to the length of the program. Another option is a hospital diploma program. Nursing students in these programs can complete the diploma in two to three years in this type of program, which is structured similar to the associate degree program. The bachelor of science in nursing program takes four years to complete and is offered by colleges or universities. Within the bachelor's degree program a nursing student has the opportunity to take some electives and additional nursing courses to prepare for a role as a nursing administrator. All three programs prepare nurses to sit for the state licensing exam.

Second to None: Top Ten Fantasy Baseball Second Basemen for the 2012 Season

Although most fantasy baseball owners look to first base and the outfield when drafting players to provide offensive punch to their rosters, there are some very viable options in the middle of the infield as well. A common strategy in regard to second base is for owners to forgo the position until the later rounds and hope to draft a serviceable player to fill the position. However, if you are able to get one of the top players at second base, not only will you help your overall fantasy baseball performance, you will also help shore up a position at which other owners may be weak. In other words, there are lots of good outfielders and first basemen available in the later rounds. Whether considering fantasy keepers or draft picks, keep these top ten fantasy baseball second basemen in mind:

sons of anarchy season 3 premiere

1) Robinson Cano (NYY) -
Hitting in the middle of an always potent line up, Cano is as close to money in the bank as you'll find in fantasy baseball. His splits show he is a consistent performer regardless of the situation. If the Yankees add any other offensive pieces in the off season, it will only increase Cano's value.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE

2) Dustin Pedroia (BOS) -
Putting the injury-plagued 2010 season behind him went a long way to quelling critics who were wary of his rambunctious playing style. He delivered an MVP-worthy season in 2011 and is a leader on a perennial contender. He also increased his power and patience this season which is a great sign moving forward.

3) Ian Kinsler (TEX) -
Kinsler's blend of skills at the position sets him apart. If he could ever hit for average away from Arlington, he would be atop the list. That being said, there is nothing wrong with a.255 BA when it comes with a 30-30 season attached to it.

4) Rickie Weeks (MIL) -
An All-Star at mid-season, Weeks once again fell victim to his injury-prone ways in the second half. It's all about staying healthy for Weeks. Draft him hoping for 20 HR and 50 RBI. Anything else you get is gravy.

5) Dan Uggla (ATL) -
What a year. After a first half which saw him hit well below the Mendoza line, Uggla rebounded with a 33 game hit streak and finished with his customary 30 HR season. For power (and little else), "Ugly Dan" is your man.

6) Brandon Phillips (CIN) -
Few second basemen can match Phillips' 5X5 best but he always seems to leave you wanting more. With his stolen bases on the decline and his HR totals steady (expect 20), he is a solid, if unspectacular pick.

7) Ben Zobrist (TB) -
'Zorilla' rebounded this past season (albeit not quite to his 2009 level). Poor offensive stats at home held him back from having an even better season. After 3 seasons, we kind of know what to expect from him:.275/20/80. You could do worse.

8) Howie Kendrick (LAA) -
After getting on base consistently in the first half (.302/.360/.462), Kendrick regressed after the break (.263/.310/.466). Maybe he will never be the future batting champion everyone thought he may become but he did increase his power in 2011 (18 HR), so all is not lost.

9) Chase Utley (PHI) -
Utley's lack of power (11 HR) this season was blamed on his inability to condition his leg muscles due to his recurring knee issues. Injuries (47 games missed in 2011) and poor production have knocked Utley down the list. There is still no better second baseman in the game but Utley simply cannot be counted upon to provide a healthy and productive season at this point of his career.

10) Jemile Weeks (OAK) -
Weeks showed some productivity with a.303 BA and 22 SB. His steal rate is a little concerning (11 CS) but with a full year at the top of the Athletics' line up, Weeks is a nice option for fantasy owners. Just don't expect the late season pop he showed in his bat to translate into big power numbers in 2011.

When considering fantasy baseball second basemen for 2012, these ten players should definitely be taken into account. Consider them "second to none" for your fantasy team.

Dental Professionalism

What does it take to become a professional? Simple. Know the rules.

nurse jackie season 1

Professionals have rules to follow, and these rules are the reason why some people are called "experts". In the world of dentistry, there is what we call proper "etiquette" or protocol to be followed. For those of you who have been dreaming of becoming a dentist someday like a dentist in Newport Beach, you have to know the rules and regulations first of ethical dentistry. The code and ethics of dentistry is a must to remember before practicing the career.

NURSE JACKIE

• You must know the SOP or standard operating procedure to prevent incidental reports like unprofessionalism, misconduct and others.
• Take the board exam for dentistry. It is the single most important unit that would evaluate and determine the incoming dentist if he/she passed the basic and main procedures of dentistry.
• Take proper pre-cautions when dealing with patients. If you would look at a dentist in Newport Beach, you would perceive them as very compassionate workers, and it's because they take good care of their patients by showing good moral values.
• Some people have their own culture and traditions, like for example Africans. There is a tradition in Africa that they have to scalp the teeth with a hammer and mini-axe. This serves as tribe tradition in identity casting.
• Practice confidentiality in all patients; do not give any patient's record to other people. You have to be professional when it comes to work.
• Avoid mistakes like prescriptions, wrong diagnosis, and mistaken results because your credibility is at risk.
• You must follow the rules and regulations of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR).
• When using dental instruments, use it carefully to avoid accidents.

Over the years, dentists have offered unselfish service to people. Their professional reputation has been excellent (although there were accusations of dentists favoring profit over service). Dentistry is a profession, a vocation. It must center on patients and service and never on the business side. (i.e. if you want to be a reputable dentist in Newport Beach). Hence, dental professionalism must be practiced at all times.

Nurse Manager Salaries

A Nurse Manager is someone who is responsible for delivering quality nursing care and managing the environment where this care is delivered. To do so, a nurse manager has to be able to provide information, assist with personnel management and recruitment and plan the budget. The role of a nurse manager requires planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling. Nurse managers also help make strategic decisions with regard to the health care facility itself and the technology that is used there. A good nurse manger should be equally sensitive and responsive to the needs of the staff under her and the needs of the health care facility itself.

nursery furniture sets

The responsibilities handled by the nurse manger have increased over the years as health care centers have become more specialized and complex. Also, staff reductions in these hard economic times have led to a further increase in the functions of the nurse manger. To keep pace with the rising responsibilities, the annual income of nurse managers has also gone up considerably in the last few years. Additionally, the talent pool of really efficient nurse managers is relatively low and it is important to provide monetary benefits to retain the best talent you have. The average salary of a nurse manger is around 70,000 US dollars. More than 50% nurse managers earn between ,000 and ,999 every year. Less than 30% earn less than ,000 annually and a whopping 16.4% earn more than ,000 a year.

NURSE

The average salaries of a nurse manager are also governed by the average salary standard of their state. But, this is not the only measure of calculating the salary of a nurse manager. The place of employment also plays a large part in the salary nurse mangers earn. A large private hospital will pay a higher salary to a nurse manager than a community health center will. On the other hand, the personal skill and efficiency of the nurse manager also plays a large role in determining the right salary for the role.

Interview Question - What's Your Strongest Weakness? How to Answer

You're sitting in the interview just waiting for them to drop the question. Your palms are getting sweaty. And, there it is. "So, Jackie, what's your biggest weakness?" You pause for what feels like 30 minutes and convince yourself to be as honest as possible: "Well, I'm pretty hard-headed. Sometimes, I have a difficult time taking suggestions."

nurse jackie season one

Big no-no. Where did you go wrong? Well, it is important to be as honest as possible in this situation. That was the right move. Remember, employers have developed a knack for detecting liars. But the trick is this: find a weakness you've offset in some way. And spend the majority of your answer explaining how you have combated it. Here's a replay...

NURSE JACKIE

"Well, in college, I sometimes struggled with time management since I always had a large course load. However, over the last year, I have been using a daily planner religiously. Now, I excel in meeting deadlines and juggling several tasks. For example, one time during finals week, I had three exams and a huge research paper due all on the same day. I created milestones for myself and goals that I wanted to achieve each day leading up to the deadline. I ended up getting As and Bs on all of the tests and an A on the paper."

Doesn't this sound more convincing?

My Canned Response

I was in a group interview once and was asked to list three weaknesses. I had a mini panic attack but ended up jotting down the following: overly anal (can lead to stress), overly nice (can be taken advantage of), overly clean (I can be a little anal).

Stop Short: Top Ten Fantasy Baseball Shortstops for the 2012 Season

In many fantasy baseball circles, there exists the notion that shortstop is the shallowest of all positions. While this may have been true in past seasons, there is actually a decent number of quality shortstops available to add value to your fantasy baseball team in the 2012 season. As with other positions, there were early round picks who disappointed in 2011 (Hanley Ramirez) and there were some late round picks who delighted their fantasy owners with big seasons (J.J. Hardy). Of all the roster spots to consider, shortstop is the one position where injury concerns hang over the fantasy possibilities of the top players. Therefore, you do not need to use an early round draft pick on filling your shortstop position. There are several players down the list that will pay dividends for sure. However, for now, we concentrate on the top ten fantasy baseball shortstops for the 2012 season.

sons of anarchy season 3 premiere

1) Troy Tulowitski (COL) -
If a player has one monster season, he is suddenly on everyone's radar. A second straight campaign of big numbers and he's a star. Three consecutive seasons of putting up huge statistical numbers and that player is an elite fantasy producer. At the shortstop position, that player is Tulowitski. The prospect of nagging injuries always seem to be hanging over Tulo's head, but there is no other player in baseball more worth the risk.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE

2) Asdrubal Cabrera (CLE) -
After an injury-riddled 2010 campaign, Cabrera broke out big time last season. As a key part of a youthful Cleveland offense, Cabrera may take another step further in 2012. Like other top fantasy shortstops, injuries have been a concern. If he stays healthy, he may elevate himself to elite status next season.

3) Hanley Ramirez (FLA) -
Drafted in the top 5 in most fantasy leagues, Ramirez was a major bust for his owners in 2011. Injuries and inconsistency plagued him last season but looking back, his 2010 numbers were not exactly high-end elite. Considering also a rumoured move to third base and Ramirez has to be drafted with caution in 2012.

4) Starlin Castro (CHC) -
Probably a year away from elite shortstop status, Castro has more upside than perhaps any other 21-year-old player in the game. His high average is not an empty.300, as he has consistently shown extra base power and has added an increased stolen base total to the mix. He's a keeper.

5) Jose Reyes (NYM) -
Don't let that batting title fool you into using an early round pick on Reyes, who benefitted from a high BABIP in 2011. He hasn't played more than 133 games since 2008 and his days of 60+ stolen bases are behind him. Injuries are always a risk with Reyes making him a second tier choice at shortstop.

6) Elvis Andrus (TEX) -
Surprisingly consistent for a young (23 years old) player, Andrus can be counted on for 35 stolen bases. Power is not Andrus' game (5 HR in 2011 after 0 in 2010) however, a marked jump in doubles may mean further power may develop (keep in mind his young age). There is no guarantee he'll ever be a.300 hitter but you could certainly do worse than the number 2 hitter on a contending team.

7) J.J. Hardy (BAL) -
Hardy certainly made his fantasy owners happy in 2011. Ranked outside the top 25 in most pre-draft rankings entering last season, Hardy led all AL shortstops in HR with 30 (and tied Tulowitski for the MLB shortstop HR title). Much like his fantasy counterparts, health is the wild card for Hardy. He has struggled with injuries throughout his career and is always a risk to miss considerable amounts of time.

8) Jimmy Rollins (PHI) -
Indiana Jones said "It isn't the years, it's the mileage". This holds true for Rollins who is an "old" 32 after spending years at a demanding position. A free agent in 2012, Rollins will get a sizable contract somewhere, just don't expect sizable offensive statistics. His stolen base totals rebounded but diminished power and a poor batting average are not going to win you too many fantasy leagues.

9) Erick Aybar (LAA) -
After several seasons of mediocre offensive stats, Aybar is starting to show a little pop to go with his improved stolen base percentage. It is not unusual to see a jump in power numbers for players his age (he'll turn 28 before the start of the 2012 season). After showing an increase in 2011 over his 2010 power statistics (10 HR vs. 5, 33 doubles vs. 18), Aybar has a little something to offer in 2012.

10) Alexei Ramirez (CWS) -
Ramirez put up his usual HR total in the mid teens (15) but his stolen bases fell off by half (13 SB in 2010, 7 in 2011). This was due to the fact that he only attempted 13 SB last season but may also indicate he has lost a step on the base paths. He is a lower-tier option at the position but won't hurt you in any category.

When considering fantasy baseball shortstops for 2012, injuries seem to be the major concern for most of the key players. So long as you don't draft a shortstop too high on draft day, you should come out with a respectable option who will deliver decent offensive statistics from the shortstop position on your 2012 fantasy roster.

Once you complete this, you're done with the basics.

NURSE

Next, if you wish to practice within the state, obtain your state license in order for you to work in clinics and hospitals. If you've passed your undergraduate studies then you have to sit for this exam in order to get the green light to start working. As soon as you get your license then you are free to begin work as a registered nurse practitioner.

Get the real feel of your job by getting some experience before diving into a specialization or further education. Try applying for jobs in small hospitals or clinics just so you know what the real world is like. While doing so you would be able to think of future plans thoroughly and get an idea of what you want. Majority of graduates would need about 2 years of experience in order to advance in their careers.

Most states now require a Master's Degree to give medical institutions a boost, so if you choose to obtain a doctorate, don't hesitate and go for it. You can also choose to specialize in something specific such as obstetrics or oncology. To do this, check with your local board of nursing and your performance would be evaluated before you get certified. The fields from which you can choose to specialize in has got a lot of choices, so pick one you are passionate about and you would be heading for a good start of a career.

How Do You Let Go of an Unworthy Relationship?

Have you experienced of being in an abusive relationship? If you have, it's time to move on. Everyone of us deserves to be happy. Life is worth living, right? Thus. enjoy it!

nurse jackie

There are many things I would like to recommend you to do if only to attract the right types of people and these suggestions however, require you to focus on yourself first. Loving yourself is the greatest love of all, as the saying goes. So we should love ourselves first before we can also love others.

NURSE JACKIE

The first thing you have to do is to obtain the services of a professional who can help you understand yourself first. A trained therapist or counselor can help you find out certain thoughts, beliefs and behaviors which are barring you from growing into a better person.

Mostly these are actually deep rooted fears and experiences from our past. Once you know what they are, it is then that you can effectively do something about them and change them.

Another, I can recommend to you is to work with a relationship coach so that he can assist you in understanding who really you are and what type of person you are looking for. Making a vision for your life, having clear values and interests and defining and in identifying the requirements, needs, and wants are some of the things that you can work together.

You can get thoughtful feedback, questions for personal introspection, and a safe and confidential environment from your coach which can help you achieve the desire of your life. You will greatly feel confident and be able to fulfill your dreams by creating plans and by investing it.

This time you will learn to see and give yourself importance differently. The mood and energy that you will project to other people will change aside from the point of view of your life and relationship with others. These new and developed personality will then attract people especially with the opposite sex. You will gain respect from them as a person at all times.

Now bear in mind that these things will only be achieved gradually. This could not be done in just one time yet, you have to undergo processes, exert more effort and spend time. And the most important thing is to that do this with less pressure. Meaning, just do it normally and uncoil things in a gentle way.

You have decided already. You have tried to move one from that unworthy relationship and have started to concentrate on taking care of yourself first.

Keep a Conversation Interesting

People often think that being a clever conversationalist means that you always have something witty to say and can talk nonstop. Not much is farther from the truth.

nurse jackie season 2

Being a good conversationalist has everything to do with being a good listener.

NURSE JACKIE

The best way to keep the conversation interesting is to hone your attention completely on the person you are speaking to. Focus your laser gaze on the person you are speaking with to the exclusion of everyone else in the room.

The way to be the best conversationalist is to draw out the person you are speaking to so they can talk and you can listen. This involves asking questions and then thoughtfully listening to their responses. Their responses may spark more questions on your part, but don't make the other person uncomfortable with a series of questions.

Nobody wants to feel the pressure of a string of questions grilling them and forcing them alone to talk. It is not an interrogation; it needs to be a dialogue, not a monologue on either part.

A few ways to become an interesting conversationalist also involve being an interesting person. This means reading at least three to five news articles a day and at least one book a week. Keep abreast of current events so you have something interesting to say during a conversation.

Famous beautiful women like Jackie O and Sophia Loren have both said they have thought about interesting subjects to introduce as conversation openers before they have a meeting with others or a dinner party.

This is not contrived, it just makes sense. Maybe you want to discuss the latest book you read or the no. 1 box office film that weekend or the ongoing war in Iraq or even the best way to shop for the holidays. Whatever it is, it is OK to think about a few subjects before you get around others.

If you sense there is no interest in this topic, you can always switch gears and speak about something else. But always have something interesting to talk about that is not you.

What do I mean?

The most boring conversationalist is someone who speaks about themselves. What they did that day, what they think about this, blah, blah, blah.

Turn it around and instead of talking about how cool you are to attend the latest art opening at MOMA, talk about how intriguing the new French impressionist exhibition is and which ones you like and why. Or you can talk about this fabulous new Cuban food restaurant you tried the other night and describe the food and ambience and what makes it so great.

One important thing to remember is what you talk about needs to be true. You need to be honest and real about your impressions. Don't be pretentious in the hopes of impressing people. Maybe what you really want to talk about is how great the New York Giants played the night before and what incredible energy there was at the bar where you watched the game. That's fine. It is all about being honest and interesting.

But remember, the number one, absolutely most important thing to remember in being a great conversationalist is to talk about anything EXCEPT you.

How to Use Social Media For Advertising

Small businesses that do not have an advertising budget that big players do would opt for social media as a great way of reaching out to a large audience as well as give itself a brand.

jackie warner workout

Social networking stages like Facebook, Twitter and so on make it very simple for businesses to brand themselves in a specific style that will cause them to acquire more clients. Below are a few tips to follow when branding through social media:

JACKIE

1. Whether you are administrating a blog, sharing links or tips on Twitter, ensure that you only share valuable content. If your subject matter is of low quality, has grammatical errors, is badly written, or if the links shared presents very little in terms of education or entertainment value, your audience will not take this lightly.

Your audience will link these negative qualities with your brand and this will basically puncture your image.

2. Your audience will know who you really are by showing your picture out there. You should avail pictures of your staff on your blog or Facebook as well as making use of your own photograph in your Twitter profile. By giving your company a human face, you enhance your trust among your diverse audience.

3. Give out a useful response when you are in a discussion, or you get a question in your blog comments. Whether people are online or in real life, they will appreciate as well as remember helpful individuals as they may later turn into habitual customers.

4. Try not to spam as spamming is wrong, lazy and it will make you lose all your customers.

More often than not, lazy marketers will just spam twitter with inappropriate links, forward spam content via their blogs, or send mass emails without personalization. This is doubtlessly a short way to wipe out your own brand name.

5 Gift Ideas For a Retiring Nurse

So you have a friend who is retiring from the career of being a nurse. She has spent an unselfish lifetime of helping those in need. What kind of gift do you give her? There are a few different ideas to keep in mind, so I have narrowed it down to five with one of them being a favorite of mine.

nursery bedding

The first idea is getting a cake. There are a lot of very cute, creative, and beautiful cake decorations that would really touch her heart, and taste buds. The only problem is that it does not last unless you take pictures.

NURSE

The second idea is a beautiful flower arrangement. There are so many beautiful arrangements that will last longer than a cake. The only problem with that, is the flowers eventually die.

The third idea is a nice transplantable plant. It lasts a long time, but she really can't have any fun using it. She can just look at it.

The fourth idea is a nice relaxing spa day. She can spend the day getting a great massage, and full spa treatment that will relieve built up tension. Like the others, it will end quickly.

The fifth idea is a beautiful gift basket. These are a ton of fun and my favorite. She will enjoy several uses out of the basket of candles, aroma therapy, bath oils, and yummy tasting delights. Plus, she has a gorgeous basket to keep for a lifetime and use it for whatever purpose she wants to use it for.

Gift baskets are definitely my favorite. As a Personal Trainer, I really like the versatility. In my line of work I like to give fun, yet healthy gifts, and I have the ability to give that to my clients. Whether you are in need of a gift for the holidays, birthdays, baby showers, weddings, etc., gift baskets are definitely the answer to your gift giving needs.

Behavioral Benefits of School Uniforms

Uniforms are considered the dress of the employed. As such, the uniforms used by some schools is considered to improve academic performance and behavior wherever they are used.

nurse jackie season 1

Professionals also indicate that the use of uniforms in school leads to a behavioral benefit as well as an academic one. They say that a lot of fights are begun over style issues and that removing that impetus improves overall behavior.

NURSE JACKIE

Of course, not everyone has an equal fashion sense and those without are sometimes teased mercilessly by those who are more fashion conscious. This leads to depression, low self esteem and other problems. And of course fighting. Those who can't afford the latest and greatest brand names just can't cut it in some circles.

Schools that have a hard time with gang issues are also bettered because of uniform policies employed at the student level.

The use of uniforms sometimes improves the behavior of students outside school as well, as some schools enforce a policy whereby students are expected to be on their best behavior any time they are wearing school uniforms regardless of whether they are in school or not. This makes school uniforms a deterrent to bad behavior on the streets as well as at school.

School uniforms are also a solution to the issue of in-school distractions. It provides a blanket policy for doing away with inappropriate messages on t-shirts, torn clothing, revealing outfits and outlandish fashion statements.

However, the biggest benefit of uniforms may be economic in nature. Uniforms are frequently just a lot cheaper to deal with than keeping up with expensive fashion trends. A regular school wardrobe is cheaper and more efficient than the array of fashion choices that exist.

Finally, a uniform does away with the hassle of picking an outfit in the morning. Your outfit is already picked out for you and you just have to grab the right items and put them on and go. These clothes can then be handed down to siblings or out to other families that need clothes.

Medicare Open Enrollment - How and When Do You Change Medicare Plans?

Each year during the final six weeks of the calendar year (Nov. 15th to Dec. 31st) American Medicare recipients have the opportunity to make changes to existing Medicare plans. This is what is referred to as the Medicare Open Enrollment period. During this time, they can choose to go with Medicare Only, Medicare plus a supplemental insurance plan and to sign up with the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Medicare Part D).

nurse jackie season one

Once a decision has been made, the change to the Medicare beneficiary's plan will take affect on January 10th of the next calendar year. To avoid any confusion at the pharmacy, it is best to make any changes as soon as possible rather than waiting to the last minute of open enrollment. If a change of plan has been decided upon, the user should do one of the following to make the changes:

NURSE JACKIE

Complete a paper application with the company managing the plan. Go to the plan's website and apply online. Call the company and signup by phone. Go to the Medicare official website and apply (note: this option may not contain the plan you want). Call Medicare directly and make the change. To signup for the new plan, you will need to be prepared to provide your full name, address, date of birth, Medicare card information, social security number, emergency contact information and the name and address of the nursing home facility or assisted living center in which the person resides (if applicable).

A few weeks after signing up, the company managing the plan will send a packet containing the membership card, a plan user guide and a list of covered prescription drugs and approved pharmacies as well as some other information.

If a user decides that he or she does not want to have a new plan, no action is required. The existing plan will be rolled over at the end of the cycle.

It is recommended that all recipients of Medicare annually review their current plan versus other plans to ensure they have the best choice for their situation.  Take a close look at pricing and benefits to compare pricing.

Pregnancy Exercise

It only stands to reason, that if exercise is good for you without a huge belly, it can only help you and the baby, when you're pregnant. But what exactly will it do?

nurse jackie season 1

All the things that regular exercise does for a woman's body. It tones and strengthens muscles, which can help avoid back aches, and which also supports those joints that loosen due to the hormones that flow for nine months. Exercise increases the production of endorphins, the natural "feel good" chemical produced by our brains.

NURSE JACKIE

It can also wear off that little extra adrenalin that causes you to be anxious or fidgety, and unable to sleep. Plus, the increased blood flow is good for all your organs, including the biggest one- your skin.

What exercises can you do? That depends on your health before, and during the pregnancy. If you are experiencing pregnancy high blood pressure, premature contractions, fluid leakage, or bleeding, you need to check with your doctor before embarking on any exercise, regardless of what your normal routine is.

For pregnancies without complications, most women can continue their regular exercise programs, with modifications for such things as weight gain, balance problems, and weather conditions. Someone who starts exercising after they become pregnant, should start out slowly, with their doctor's advice, and build up gradually using a variety of cardiac/aerobic, strength, and flexibility exercises.

Women should avoid exercises in which there are significant chances of falling, or of the body being jarred, bounced, or incurring impact on the abdomen.

All I Ask Is The Chance To Prove That Money Can't Make Me Happy

The title of this article is a quote from one of my all time favourite comedians Spike Milligan.

nurse jackie season 2

I love quotes and often turn to them for inspiration when researching an article to write. My topic this time being 'my personal quest to love money' - the quotes pages didn't disappoint as there are literally thousands concerning money:

NURSE JACKIE

Money is good:

Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons - Woody Allen

Money is easy come easy go:

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered - George Best - Footballer

There's never enough:

I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something - Jackie Mason

The State takes it all anyway:

I love to go to Washington, if only to be nearer my money - Bob Hope

And so on!

Over the years I personally have had a struggle to get a handle on my own relationship with money but have visited the subject recently as a result of my work. I develop the website for a successful young guy Adam Eason. When putting one of his audio products on-line I decided to check it out as it is entitled "The Millionaire Mindset". This really got me thinking and led to my self analysis which is really revealing

Since starting in business 10 years ago I have always come to a certain level of income and things would happen to just not let me get past that point. I am not talking poverty here, but, almost as if by design my income was pegged. I had a barrier which I know now was my money mindset which put a cap on making any more than a certain amount. It was my own money mindset that needed attention.

As I analyzed I recognized some important beliefs that were sown way back in my youth.

My father was a typical Yorkshire man. Most people in the UK will understand the stereotype that I refer to. He was a thoroughly good man, but dour and blunt (called a spade a spade). We were poor financially as a family despite his hard grafting work but rich in so many other ways.

He only ever gave me one bit of financial advice delivered in a thick northern accent "If 'e borrow 'owt - 'e will owe 'owt". Translation for the rest of the world - If you don't get in debt you will keep out of trouble. My father if he were alive today would not be part of the statistics of record credit card debt.

I was also brought up as a Christian with values that didn't place much importance on the attainment of material wealth. Another strong marker for my sub-conscious learning.

I further reinforced my money belief mindset by going into the nursing profession (a long story for another time) which particularly for a man was unusual at the time and also not very financially rewarding. I justified it in my own mind because I thoroughly enjoyed the job. It certainly did have rewards of a non financial nature and led to me having a fantastic career and working in places abroad I would never have visited but for my employment.

I used to say to friends "I don't care about money - it's the job I love".

How much harder could I have been pushing my negative attitude to money?

Roll on the years - wife, children and all those responsibilities later - and guess what? Money became more of an issue.

Why not run a business and make some money? - thought I.

There was a glitch in that plan though, namely a sub-conscious mind brought up with one education and one belief set that 'money isn't important'

No wonder that making real money has proved difficult for me.

Sure enough the business made survival level income but nothing more - till now. That money barrier is finally and easily being breached and the proof is my bank account.

The good news is that I have a new weapon to change my mindset - self-hypnosis. You simply teach your sub-conscious mind and implant a different money mindset. The important part of your brain, the sub-conscious CAN be taught new things. I could go on about self-hypnosis but it is for others much more qualified to teach and educate you further.

I just use self-hypnosis. What a discovery!

There are no regrets about my past and in fact many of my former beliefs remain intact - you can choose what to keep and what to dump with this hypnosis stuff. One of the reasons I want to make money is to have money to give to causes and situations that I would like to help. There's a surprise - Not.

My mind is at ease because the altruistic side of my nature is being satisfied with this new money mindset.

Oh well - on to my millions.

There is one thing I do know though - my dad was right about those wretched credit cards. Bless him!

It's amazing how fast later comes when you buy now! - Milton Berle
